I enjoyed München a lot; I remember it being quite beautiful when I visited during the summer.

What kind of "nightlife" activities are you into?

Munich is pricier and a bit more commercialized. I enjoyed Berlin more because it has more history and beers are cheaper. Munich will be cleaner and more touristy but unless if you are going for Octoberfest, I didn't feel there was much to do there.

If it were up to me, I would suggest Prague which is a short train ride from Berlin. Beautiful city, beautiful women, even cheaper beer.

Berlin. Even in 6 months you'll still have more stuff to see.

Munich is great for historical/art aspects, but it's like comparing Omaha to Los Angeles.

Great post! My roomate and I asked ourselves the same question earlier. Is Oktoberfest something you have to experience? If not, would you go to Berlin instead? We drink, a lot, and would love to do either one. I heard both places are fun. Please, if you guys have been to either I'd love details!

I was there during the 2006 World Cup, so that could be why the city seemed packed to capacity when I was there (equal parts foreigners and Germans). Didn't go to any clubs, but it was a clean, pleasant city at night; I had fun eating out and browsing the beer gardens.

Munich is beautiful and people begin drinking beer at 11AM in the beer gardens. Hit the world famous Hofrauhaus for drinks, music, people watching, dancing.

Berlin is a great city ala NYC, but if you've seen it, then definitely try Munich!

Two interesting things I saw in the area were a prostitute working out of a motor home and Dachau.

As for cities, Berlin > Munich.

In terms of city surroundings, if you exclude the Potsdam area of Berlin, you can't beat Bavaria.
