I'd say Sanders was more the stoned hippie dude that would provide ideas, albeit incoherent ones. Clinton needed a support team just to send out a single Tweet.
I have you down as socially maladaptive, some sort of glitch in empathy, perhaps. Or am I just projecting. And how do I differentiate projecting from just seeing in others what I am consciously aware of as self truth?

People feel hopeless only because the blindfold of labor protectionism and Murrica First! sentiment gave them unrealistic expectations. Now that they have to look through their big boy goggles, they're shitting their depends. Americans were doing just fine by the end of Obama's presidency, and thanks to continued advancements in technology (largely driven by corporations), we'll continue to do even better if fantasy-world populists like Trump and Sanders don't fuck us over. Neoliberalism isn't perfect, though I'd argue some of the worst elements of corporate corruption (e.g. the military-defense complex) predate it regardless. The occasional kickback and lobbyist gift is a small price to pay when considering the alternative in France.

Almost all sophisticated tech comes from gov funded academia. Eg. semiconductors from defense grants to MIT/Stanford/etc, built on a foundation of theoretical and then applied quantum theory plus material science plus math/cs, and you know where the internet came from.

I know, I know. Al Gore invented it.

sorry, couldn't resist.

Gore's misinterpreted remarks are pretty apropos to the discussion of politicians' purpose. The point was he saw it as his place to fund the right future facing projects to advance the country, whether the internet or climate/energy related. Contrast to the dumbshits' ideal of building a big wall some couple thousand years after the chinese.

I mean it only makes sense, right?

As to the last have a network of friends which are true enough to tell you when they believe you are off the mark. Introspection and external verification aren't foolproof but better than nothing.

I'd say Sanders was more the stoned hippie dude that would provide ideas, albeit incoherent ones. Clinton needed a support team just to send out a single Tweet.

Yea incoherent ideas that are practiced actively in the 10 happiest countries in the world. Each of which is measurably superior to America in just about every single category that matters.

Iceland,
Finland,
Norway,
Sweden,
Australia,
New Zealand,
The Netherlands,
Canada,
Switzerland,
Denmark...

All using socialism almost identical to the socialism proposed by Sanders. Free healthcare and education, a livable minimum wage, strong unions, etc.... yeah it is so incoherent for Americans to want what the happiest countries in the world have. That is why we will settle for the coherency our system. A system where an ever increasing portion of labor is used for the enrichment of the 0.1%. Our corporate parties barely even pretend to give a shit about the electorate or working people, it is all about the money for the monied class.

The Dems. mistake was forgetting that these days, politics is NOT seen as serious business. It's consumed as entertainment, where people root for their party like they root for their football team. This blindingly obvious political reality having somehow escaped them, they decided to nominate perhaps the least charismatic candidate to ever walk the Earth - a preternaturally inauthentic woman who habitually focus-grouped her every 3rd sentence and whose idea of humour was "I'm trying to get them to have Pokemon Go-To-The-Polls" - and then put her up against a professional showman.

I think we can all agree that this was a tactical error.

You demean yourself with the same sort of false equivalency used by the right wing.

This just shows how the media can and does misinform the public (not that I necessarily believe you believe that Al Gore said he invented it as much as Al Gore spoke so vaguely that it was easy for someone who didn't like him to imply that he did say it).

People who are aware of the reality realize that Al Gore was one of the very first politicians that supported policies (mainly additional funding) that helped the internet become more widely used by the public and business faster than it otherwise probably would've been. It also shows how much less capable a public speaker that he was than President Clinton that it was easy for Fox to twist his words.

I will just say this.

Bernie Sanders would have been a better president than either Hillary or Trump and would not be a disgrace to America like we have now.

Trump said wacky stuff he had to walk back and Bernie would have done the same.(walking back his questionable comments)

He would have been better in what way? In how he would have made you feel? Sure.

Better feels would have led to the win. Like it did for republicans with Trump.

In fact nowadays Id say elections are all about the feels. It seems most Americans are not intelligent enough to weigh the facts and make a beneficial decision for themselves. They just vote for who they like the most.

And sadly, Trump was more likeable on a personal level to many Americans, like W bush.

Americans vote for the person they wanna hang out with, not the best candidate. Sadly.

Bill Clinton was cooler than his opponents
Bush was "cooler" than Gore and Kerry
Obama was cooler than Hillary and McCain and Romney
Trump was cooler than Hillary.

We are living the idiocracy.

Anyone who had "better feels" from Trump at any point during the campaign needs to be bitch slapped hard enough to snap their neck.

You might want to check the first second item. Oh course you Bernie guys are up in arms about this article, cause your so smart, you weren't influenced by fake news.

But when Mattes started tracking down the sites’ domain registrations, the trail led to Macedonia and Albania. In mid-September, he emailed a few of his private investigator friends with a list of the sites. “Very creepy and i do not think Koch brothers,” he wrote.

Mattes and his friends didn’t know what to make of his findings. He couldn’t get his mind around the possibility that trolls overseas might be trying to sway a bunch of Southern Californians who supported Sanders’ run for president. “I may be a dark cynic and I may have been an investigative reporter for a long time, but this was too dark ― and too unbelievable and most upsetting,” he said. “What was I to do with this?”
