I just got a corsair h50 cooler and I'm looking to get 2 nice 120 mm fans for a push pull. The 2 fans I'm using right now are obnoxiously loud. Does anyone know of a fan that will give me great performance and is pretty quiet?

Oh my god. The higher rpm scythe's are sold out literally everywhere I look. That thermalright seems nice but the rpms are only 1000. The sound of my current fans is giving me a headache.

I would try the Silverstone APs. They are made for high static pressure mainly and not throughput.

23dba max for me and that's loud, imo

The Scythe Slipstream Fans are great
The Scythe Flex fans are great too
Arctic Cooling fans are among the best

I personally do not recommend gentle typhoons from personal experience. They may make little airflow noise but the bearing noise is much greater and more annoying than typical fans. Instead of a woosh of air sound, you get a high pitch whiny motor sound.

Best 120mm? There are several, but they are only the best when running at < ~900rpm

I like the scythe s-flex I think it's "E" series runs tops at 1200rpm. Other top contenders are Nexus, Yates, and scythe slipstreams.

Note: the above info focuses on silence with good cooling not the other way around

I thought a fan was also rated by it's CFM. What are the differences between static pressure and CFM and what is more important?

wikipedia can explain it better than I can:
The other consideration when choosing a computer fan is static pressure. A fan with high static pressure is more effective at forcing air through restricted spaces, such as the gaps between a radiator or heatsink. Therefore, enthusiasts often prioritize static pressure over CFM when choosing a fan for use with a heatsink. The relative importance of static pressure depends on the degree to which the airflow is restricted by geometry (i.e. static pressure becomes more important as the spacing between heatsink blades decreases). Static pressure is usually measured in either mm Hg or mm H2O.

Did you have yours on a fan controller?

If not you may just have had defective fans.

You simple can't beat the GTs for noise to performance ratio.

Do GT's not play nice with controllers or something? I've never heard of that.

Would be nice to know that before I go drop a ton of cash on enough of them for 2 MCR320's lol

I've seen many crappy fans come and go. But I bought two Yate Loon D12SL-12 120mm fans from JAB-tech 4 years ago and they're still running as quiet as they day I put them in. And they're dirt cheap. You can get two of them shipped for 12.55.

I am no scientist, but I would advise against gentle typhoon if you have sensitive hearing. There is a horrid bearing noise that is quite high pitched (to me). I recently went through about 6 different fans trying out noise (and testing against multiples in a local fan shop) Even when lowered with a controller, the bearing noise was just as sharp and metallic.

The scythe pushes a ton of air for how quiet it is (but i had to move it to the back of my case) and i can still hear its stupid bearings.

I cannot hear the 800rpm s-flex that i got. It is the real definition of silent.

Also, NEXUS real silent are pretty decent, but definitely audible. They are a good mix of budget and quiet.

OP, buy 2 low speed yates, and do push / pull on that rad, unless you really dont have room.

That will be cheaper and greater then ALL the single fans everyone here listed.

I recently bought two 1150rpm Gentle Typhoons to replace the stock fan on my TRUE, and these are seriously quiet. I'm actually planning on replacing the stock Silverstone fan at the top of my case with a third GT because that is now the loudest fan in my rig at idle (GTX 580 is louder under load of course).

The S-Flex fans are a close second IMO. Also a well built ball bearing fan.

I didn't have a good experience with Yates. I bought about a dozen (closed corner) from Jab Tech last year, and many of them became noisy after a few months. I know there are a quite a few people who swear by them, and the Yate in my PSU has been quiet for years now. Maybe it's luck of the draw.
