You'll probably hear alot of praise for the Samsung 830 in terms of both reliability and speed, not to mention the price has been falling on it.

If you're looking for the best amount of GB for your dollar, while retaining some excellent speeds, the Crucial M4 series is the one you want.

For incredible reliability and great speed, any Intel SSD will suffice, but prepare to pay a premium.

And you will also be told to avoid anything OCZ, which I also suggest, having had my own issues with their SSDs.

The best 128GB SSD for performance and reliability is the Plextor M3P. The second best would be the Samsung 830.

I wouldn't trust Plextor, the 5 year warranty means something to me. It tells me it will break down just as how OCZ bugs out, Do whats tried and trusted.

Seems like Samsung 830 and Crucial M4's are the way to go. I have 2x 256GB Crucial M4's. Seems very solid and fast enough.

When the 8MB bug got bad in 2011, and then even worse when they switched to Sandforce. I'm not saying Intel is as bad as OCZ, but they are now middle of the pack instead of tops.

when intel stopped making their own controllers and never making it past SATA2 (except with 3rd party controllers).

So to summarize why Intel isn't king anymore:

1. Intel 8MB bug
2. Sandforce.

My own evidence is that I have installed about 24 Intel SSDs, from G2 to 320 to 520...with no bad ones out of the box...and one failing after six months (320 series). I haven't been impacted by the 8 MB bug...nor have my customer installs.

That being said...I am always looking for the most reliable SSD answer...I will research Plextor more.

Do you guys have any other links to show why Plextor is the best? I would appreciate it...

I compare the percentage of below average (1- or 2-egg) reviews on newegg for various SSD models. The last time I updated it was a couple weeks ago, and here is how it looked by manufacturer then:

4.9% Plextor
6.5% Samsung
7.2% Crucial
10.0% Intel
18.9% SanDisk
25.2% OCZ

Note that this is NOT failure rate or probability of having trouble for someone who buys an SSD. This is the probability of a reviewer being unhappy with an SSD from each manufacturer. Therefore, the numbers can be used to compare manufacturers, but the numbers themselves have little significance.

Actually, if you break the data down by models rather than manufacturer, the Extreme looks pretty good (Sandisk got dragged down by many bad reviews on the Ultra).

It is still a significantly higher % than the rest.. and not something to just be taken with a grain of salt. Relative to the competition, its pretty alarming.

Why else are 1 out of 4 OCZ customers unhappy while its only 1 in 20 with Plextors, and even 1 in 10 with Intels?

It looks even worse when you break it down by model, because you see all the OCZ drives towards the bottom :\

The only thing you have to consider, is that OCZ drives DO seem to sell a bit more than the competitors, so the actual failure rate is indeed nowhere near as bad as say 25%.. but its still all about how it fares against its competitors, and that's pretty poorly.

No, that is not one of the models I have been following. However, you can easily find the data for models still on newegg's active list (it is a bit more difficult for models no longer sold like the Intel G2, the data is still there but you have to sometimes guess a URL to find it).

It took me only a couple minutes to find this:

On the one hand, we have data from thousands of people posting newegg reviews. On the other hand, we have you saying people are being dumb. Not a hard decision on which to give more weight to.
