Hi guys.

I'm looking for a new monitor because my old one is broken. I'll getting a new rig with my monitor with a gtx 880. So i think a 120hz monitor would be a nice choice to utilise my GPU. But there's so many monitors that I have no idea which i should get.

Also I'm planning to do a lot of gaming. And I was wondering what's the best size for games like LoL, Skyrim and BF4, 24 or 27?

I can't spend more than 340$ but the less i spend the better.

Have a great day.

BenQ XL2420Z

Z series introduces new stroboscopic implementation that is superior to Lightboost, but this means it will be at the upper end of your budget

after that if you want to save a little money there's the older ASUS VG248QE, which is capable of being upgraded to G-Sync if you're willing to spend the ~$200 and do the DIY install at a later date

27" is a tad outside your budget, shouldn't even worry about the difference

Hmmm, this is gonna hurt my wallet. What about the XL2411Z. What's the difference between this one and the one you recommend me? Because the xl2411z is 100$ cheaper.

And can't I also buy a DIY kit for BenQ's monitor? And how do you install it? Also does it void your warranty?

Anyway thanks for answering man.

I am highly partial to the Asus VG248QE, mainly because I own two already. I mean 144Hz, 1ms response, and the image is beautiful after very little modifications. Newegg usually puts it on sale for $240 which makes it best bang for the buck in my opinion. Later on I will end up DIY G-Sync on at least one of them just for S-and-giggles.

On the side: My MSI GTX680 Lightning has pushed the monitor close the the 144Hz refresh on a few games and it's nice.

I just picked up a XL2411z and am thrilled with it! The difference between the 2411z and the 2420z is just the little device for quick adjustments to the monitor settings. Read this review for a good description. Amazon Review
Oh and I said I would mention the XL2420Z. This monitor has the same panel. You are paying $100 extra for that cheesy magnet switch at the base. If you want it, by all means, throw your money at it. But I can't imagine myself wanting that atrocity on my desk, and I would barely touch it as well. The XL2411Z monitor does have limited hotkeying for 3 buttons which can let you change brightness/contrast/profiles and other things on the fly (AMA is not available to hotkey, which is lame), but that is more than enough for me. I'm happy with the $100 I saved and the guaranteed V2 firmware. Also, since the panel is the same, you can look up reviews on the XL2420Z

I'll never go back to any monitor less than 120hz. For $250, this thing is a bargain!

I suspect the best is probably the Eizo FG2421. (http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/eizo_fg2421.htm), although you may find featurewise something like the Benq XL2411Z is also a decent model. The Eizo has less motion blur, has its "240hz" feature which is a double strobe technique and ultimately produces a pretty decent picture. Not cheap, but its probably the best 120+hz monitor out there at 24".

I would also argue the ROG Swift should be considered as well. Its 27", 1440p so well outside the original specs but its also a 8 bit colour TN panel with high refresh rates and good blur reduction with gsync. Its the best gaming monitor you can buy right now without a doubt.

Naw it was late, I just forgot about the XL2411Z which is why I didn't recommend it. Its in the same family as the 2420Z, just with a few less frills (doesn't have DisplayPort connection, so you'll have to use DL DVI), although the stand is actually a little more versatile in allowing a wider range of adjustments, and because of the 11Z's more simplified nature, it might have slightly less input lag, although both are going to be exceptionally fast and any difference fairly negligible.

AFAIK the DIY G-Sync kit is specific to only that particular ASUS model and that model alone (the VG248QE), as G-Sync isn't some sort of universal product, it has to be tailored by the monitor manufacturer to work with their design, and I know of no other DIY kits for any other brand/model.

If you can't wait, XL2411Z and VG248QE are, at least IMO, your best options. If you can wait and see how the 1080p G-Sync screens stack up (for instance, BenQ will have a G series, so the XL2411Z will have a XL2411G counterpart with G-Sync instead of their own hardware) that might give you some pause to think, but I don't think these will come in under your budget (likely to be ~$400+ from my best guess) so it might not give much pause at all (unless you would be willing to expand your budget for such a feature).

That being said, I'd be confident in recommending the BenQ Z series as the best non-G-Sync 120+Hz monitors and certainly the best in your budget range. The ASUS VG248QE is also very good but its from a previous generation (where its competition was the BenQ T series) and I would rank behind XL2411Z, and this is a major reason why: http://www.blurbusters.com/benq/strobe-utility/

Those are definitely flagships, but they also command flagship pricing, and are well outside of the OP's $340 budget (as the Eizo is $600 and the Swift $800)

What the advantage of Display Port over DL DVI? I could buy a slightly used one for the same.

And for the the G-sync story, I could wait and get one but i will to cheap of the GPU. I'll have to get a gtx 870 or 860 instead of 880. Do you think it would be worth? I've heard of G-sync but I don't really know what it makes in reality. Do you a comparaison?

This is interesting. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get one, but do you think the Z series price will drop?

If you keep an eye on Amazon, I seen the BenQ XL 2411Z for $229.00 shipped the other day (back to $269.00 now) which is the lowest price I have seen on the XL 2011z, I forgot about this thread or I would have posted it when I seen it. It also suppose to come from Amazon with the important updated FW V2 installed.

Btw the XL 2420G Hybrid G-Sync is suppose to be around $469.00 if what I read recently is correct.

image is beautiful? that ASUS monitor is by far the worse pos I have ever used. and I had had nothing but cheap TN panels when I tried it for a couple weeks.
