Right now I am torn between the Samsung 171b, 171p and 170t. Are these good? which is best, and are there any better ones? price range is around 800 bucks, and i'd like to keep it there. thanks.
For just over $800, you really should look into the 19" Sceptre. It uses the same panel as the Viewsonic VG191 and the new 19" Planar. 25ms Total average response time, 250nits brightness, 500:1 contrast, 170 degree viewing, VGA & DVI.
I picked up a 17" philips from staples last week on closeout for $450. Thought it was a bargain, but have yet to try any games on it. Looking at the specs from philips the response times are : trise= 30mS (typ) tfall= 15mS (typ)
Any idea what this means? is my response time going to be 30ms? How bad does that suck for gaiming?
I might let my wife or daughter use this one and I'll go back to my 21"
Havnt tried any games on it yet, but im running 3dmark 2001 on it right now
I can see some minor ghosting. on it. I have the refresh set to 75mhz instead of the default 60mhz. Wonder if 60 would give better performance? I doubt it.
My 21 CRT of course doenst have the ghosting, but i think the LCD looks better.
I need to get a DVI cable for it, then Ill be able to hook both the lcd and 21" at the same time to compare more accuratly.
Apex, are you talking about the X9G? Do you have first hand experience with one? Where is one for "just over $800"
I am seriously considering buying a 17-19" LCD in the next month or less. I was really thinking about getting the Samsung 181T. I am open to others though. It must be DVI, 500:1, 25ms, etc...
The more I think about it, I would really rather spend about $700-$800.

BTW, where did you find the 240T for $2500? I'd love to purchase one. BTW, the 181T has 450:1 contrast under their specifications, but 500:1 under features. Not sure which is right. I don't see the response time though.
I've seen the Viewsonic, which the X9G shares a panel with. It's a nice monitor. I doubt you'd regret the upgrade from the 181T to the X9G. BTW, Samsung now has the 191T, which is more similar to the X9G.
It's from Compaq. But you need to use the 20% off coupon code to get it. You can find that code at any one of the deals sites out there including mine.

Ok, you talked me into it. I'm buying one tonight.
<< (though I needed PowerStrip to tweak my colors a little) >>
I just read PC World's review of the monitor...where they said "Its graphics also looked good, but in a comparison with some top-scoring 18-inch models from this month's LCD roundup, the VG191 couldn't compete with the depth and richness of its rivals' colors."
I'm staring at it in my cart right now for $864.88 shipped...
