wow, i haven't posted in a while, anyhow...
I'm gonna throw in my vote for the Samsung 170T (as i always do in these threads, when I find them), bought it in june/july, absolutely beautiful monitor, I love it to death, FPSes work just fine, there is slight ghosting when your framerate dips below 30fps (the jagged movement causes *slight* shadows to show up) but you d00dz doling out crazy insane money for GF4s should be fine. I bought it for 1000$ flat but it's down to 775$ which I think is more than worth it. I don't have any dead pixel but there is one (his name is bob) who will show bright colors if locally there's a bunch of dark pixels, but in the same vertical area there's more light than dark on average... so it shows up once every few months or so, and never in games (probably because they're always so dark anyway ). I could ramble on for a while about this but basically it's a great LCD, works for gaming, and oh yea, it offers manual scaling selection - there's a control on the monitor itself to either scale to full size or leave extra area blank - works well for half-life @ 1280x960, it just shows up letterbox style. imho 17" is the most you need for an LCD at this point in time, as 1600x1200 lcds aren't all that common, aren't supported in the dvi spec, and are as expensive as all get out. imho, with the clarity of an lcd, 1280x1024 almost feels "big" (as I'm one to run 1024x768 on a 14" monitor), if raw screen size is your thing (games/movies this is good i guess), the 18" and 19" lcds are cool, but you have no more screen real estate, and no more detail to the scenes in your games, than I do with my 17".
hope this helps, email me (k2.1337network@gmx.net) if you want to ask more specific q's as I don't check my pms hardly ever anymore,
