Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new laptop. Main usage will be Video Editing/CAD/Gaming (AAA).

I don't need something easily transportable. So I'm not really looking into extra costly sleek and thin laptops like the MSI GS/Razor Blade... Same goes for the battery life, not a very important criteria. I do not need 4K right now either.

Budget is limited at 2000 dollars roughly.

After some research, here what I found:

- ASUS A17 TUF 766IV (4800H/RTX2060/16Go/144Hz/512SSD) - 1500 euros
- Gigabyte Aorus 7KB (10750/RTX2060/16Go/144Hz/512SSD) - 1600 euros
- MSI GL75 10SER (10750/RTX2060/16Go/144Hz/1ToSSD) - 1850 euros

The Asus is my favorite since the Ryzen seems way better for productivity than Intel 10th series. But I can't find it anywhere at the moment so I'm considering getting the Aorus. (I'm in France)

Do you have any other suggestion? Or know when more Ryzen based laptops will come out?

Thanks in advance.
A.

Discrete graphics card and one with the most ram. Processor wise, i think it's sixes. Be careful with the hinges on all of them. You may need to loosen them. MSI are notorious for having them too tight and then the mounts break.

I'd wait and see how the new XPS 17 performs, it should start just under 2k.

For the longest time I've been wishing Dell would make something like the XPS 17.
Ever since the first XPS 15 with the slim bezels I have wanted a 17 inch version.

Now that it's finally here, it feels disappointing to only have Intel parts from 2015.
And the prices have crept up considerably (40% or more).

I really wish there were good 120+Hz 1440p 17" screens as well.
4k is barf in a laptop, especially limited at 60Hz.

You may not want the Asus TUF laptops.
They are purposely making them terrible in an effort to promote more expensive Intel options.

It's unfortunate because AMD really is a good choice for high end laptop CPUs.
Here's the 4800H vs i7-9750H & i7-10750H (same CPUs, 10th gen has slightly higher boost clock)

LG Gram 17" with the new GTX1650 - comes with 512gb SSD (you can add another NVME i believe) and its ram can be upgraded (1 stick) to max of 40gb (8 is solder on board)

Something with a 16x10 screen like Gram or XPS. For stuff like CAD, 16x9 is trash from the get go, the other specs don't matter nearly as much in everyday use. How many professional CAD users use a 16x9 monitor on work desktop? Windows PC makers basically gave away premium laptop market to Apple by going with cheap 16x9 screens. Look at those nasty bottom bezels on 16x9 laptops, that's display real estate that you could have had with 16x10, but instead you got a trashy piece of plastic.

Just putting this out there for anybody interested in a 15" work laptop.
Don't know if there are better options, but this looks like a decent one.

Edit:

Actually there is a 17" version, but I do not know how it compares to the 15" reviewed above.
