Im looking to purchase a 19" monitor for hardcore gaming. Im looking forward to half life 2 and doom 3 and other high end games to come out, so I need a really good monitor. Which one is would you recommend?

By the way I have a .24 monitor right now, does the dot pitch affect gaming too? Should i get a .24 for the 19" ?

If you want a low priced one that isn't crap, the Samsung SyncMaster 955DF is nice. I've been using it for a year. If you look hard you can probably find it for less than $200 now.

Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for; I don't know about the high end monitors.

Negative on the p95+. Get either the NEC FP912 or Mitsubishi DP930 (same tube on both monitors, same monitors really).

Check out ebay. I have purchased 2 19" NEC FE950+ monitors, and they are really excellent. They don't have really good dot pitch, but you really can't tell a difference (I can't anyway). Sony makes a good 19" as well. I don't know about other brands, NEC and Sony are all I have owned. Just be wary of low or negative feedback sellers.

Ok I went and saw a monitor with aperture grill and those 2 lines across the screen bother me. I know you're supposed to get used to it after a while but on a white background they really show. I know LG 915ft is the only monitor that uses a sort of aperture grill technology without showing the lines. I really like the LG but some people recommend the Samsung.

I won't use anything but Aperture Grille. The colour and clarity is so much nicer in my experience.

Well there is a different technology which is in between shadow mask and aperture grill - slot mask. LG flatron and some NEC screens use them. It allows more light to pass through resulting in an overall brighter image, just not as bright as aperture grill, but brighter than shadow mask. I would definately get the slot mask LG flatron (because it eliminates the two lines AND shadow/slot mask display text more clearly) but I dont know if the actual image of the slot mask display will be as sharp or clear. A couple of sources i looked at say the brightness is the only thing it is lacking in comparison to aperture grill, the vividness of the colors are equal. I dont mind sacrificing a little bit of brightness for clearer text and no lines - but im not sure if its ONLY the brightness that slot mask lacks in comparison to aperture grill. If brightness is the only thing, then i'll go with LG Flatron, but if sharpness and clarity of the image arent as good, then ill go with Samsung 900NF. I need this information before I can make a purchasing decision. Let me know if you can help.

It would be best if you could compare them for yourself(though even such a comparison may vary due to poor setup of the monitors). A Best Buy or such should have a selection of all types you could check out. You may want to have a list of Brand/Modelnames before going to such a place though, salespersons sometimes carry on as if they know something.

Slot Mask certainly sounds intriguing, if my Diamondtron ever packs it in I'll have to go and check it out.

I`m the opposite, they do bother me a lot.

Scarface5277,sounds like you`ll probably prefer a shadowmask type tube so Samsung 957MB or the Viewsonic G90F would be worth looking at.

As to the LG 915FT I`ve that model and it produces a darker screen then the trinitron/diamondtron type tubes, the main problem I found with it was geometry, since the first two I received had poor geometry that couldn`t be corrected but the third replacement was fine with very good geometry, sharp text ,good colour etc ,btw the newer model is the LG 900P.

Can you give me some more details on the LG? does it have a more crisp and clear image in comparison to trinitron? or is the trinitron better? and are the colors more vivrant on the trinitron or the LG?

Sony G400.

Just make sure you pick up the monitor and don't get it shipped. Sony really cheaped out on the packaging material and i have heard alot of them being damaged while being shipped.

The trinitron has the edge with colour but the LG was still good ,as to text I found it was perfect on my LG,the main reason why somebody would go with the LG is if they hate those AG wires like I do on the trinitron/diamondtron tubes.

Also both the inside and outside glass on the LG 915FT is dead flat,I`m not sure what improvements are on the newer 900P model.

NEC / Sony make nice screens. I have a 22" NEC and I love it. When I sit in front of it nothing distracts me and I can't see anything but the giant screen. A must for "pro" gamers if you ask me.
