Precisely, if you always pay off your card's balance then interest rates won't matter. What matters are rewards: it's the best reason to use a credit card for most of your purchases.

That's what I plan on doing. I always pay w/ a debit card and have the money, now it'll just be in one lump sum at the end of the month.

I meant on minor purchases.

I'd rather not spend $100 on clothes or video games if dont have that cash available to me. Just a personal preference. Maybe a credit card for emergency situations...but for run-of-the-mill stuff? No thanks.

Why not use a CC on everyday stuff? At least you get rewards and small discounts for using a CC, plus you don't even have to really carry cash on you. Also if you get mugged, you lose the $80 cash on you, and I lose nothing since I won't be held accountable for money spent on my stolen cc. So, a CC? Yes, thank you!

We definitely have different opinions of "minor purchases".

I would consider that anything under $10.

Alright well just so everybody knows, the chase freedom card requires excellent credit to be approved. Since I have NO credit, I went with the citibank mtvU card which doesn't require any past credit.

A consolidated sticky thread WOULD be nice. But after some searching it's apparent that there are many sites entirely built with this Q in mind. It's easier to check there first (which I should have done).

This won't be my first credit card. My credit score is near 800 at the moment, and just looking for an additional card.

Is this Chase Freedom card one of the best cards to get for people with established credit?
