Best? Maybe a Focal Bird or Little Bird 2.1 set or a pair of Genelec G Ones with an F One sub.
Disclaimer: I haven't sampled either of those, but I've been doing speaker research for some weeks now, as I've been wanting to upgrade my venerable Boston Acoustics BA4800 and MicroMedia System sets (the sub of the latter finally quit after about 15 years, so now I'm only using 2 satellites with the BA4800 kit for a 2.1 setup).
Ideally I would like to get a 2.0 setup, but the (small) speakers I've looked at so far seems like a downgrade to my old Boston Acoustics sub sets, which is why I've also looked at 2.1 sets.
Just today I returned a set of Yamaha NX 50 as they failed to live up to expectations and I sampled the B&W MM-1 set, which sounded great but didn't have enough bass for the price IMO.
I'm also considering Audioengine A2+, but there seems to be mixed experiences with these, and I'm not sure they'll go deep enough without a sub. I recently did sample a set of (the larger than the A2) PreSonus Eris E4.5, and they had great sound for the price, and enough bass that I could get by without a sub with those.
Looking forward to hearing other people's recommendations...
