I'm looking for a nice 2.1 speaker setup. I am looking for something that will give me good music and movie sounds. I really don't play game. Even if I do I probably use one of my headphones for it.

It seems like Klipsch Promedia 2.1 is highly regarded around here... are there any other choices? Any websites that I can browse around to read up on reviews?

Thanks!

I have the Logitech X-230 speakers. I paid about $50 for the set and I'm incredibly impressed with the crisp sound and deep bass. Excellent value.

What is your budget? Logitech makes some higher-end 2.1 stuff as well - the Z-2300 is THX-certified, and goes for about $125.

If you want to spend a little bit more you could go for a set of studio monitors...decent pairs in the $250-300 range for a 2.1

You won't get as much bass as a lot of these computer sets but overall quality is much higher.

I picked up my z-2300s from Amazon for $50 shipped. That sort of deal probably isn't common, but if they do re-run such a special, I can whole-heartedly recommend the speakers.

The Z-2300s can be found for a little under $100 if you shop around. I reccomend them.

for music and movies you'd want something with higher quality sound than some generic logitech stuff. logitech is notorious for its squeaky highs. non-existent mids and boomy non-accurate bass. i owned a set of z-2300's and do not recommend them for music and def not for movies.

i'm currently using some m-audio lx4's but i recommend their BX5's will blow anything away thats 2.1 under $200. 5 inch driver.

I've done some reading and it seems as if the logitechs AREN'T the ones for me.
I am hearing phenomenal things about the M-Studio BX5s. I will be shopping for a pair of these speakers.

Thanks!

The Z2300s are great for music and movies. I've had mine for awhile now and they still sound great. I'm no audiophile though so...

no they're not. if you think they are u haven't heard some of the better stuff. i'm using lx4's and still want something better. the z2300 with their 2in driver has no range. only squeaky highs. and a boomy loud bass from the subwoofer.

it's more useful if u wanna showoff your loud bass when gaming

How do you know what sounds good to my ears?

I wasn't even looking at the amount of watts it had. All I did was listen to them in store and they sounded better (my opinion) than the other 2.1 speakers there (M-Audio AV40 and Klipsch ProMedia 2.1). Again, most of us aren't "audiophiles" so we could care less about things like range, highs, etc.. As long as it sounds good to our ears. Then again, many of these aren't easy to find in B&M stores so it's not possible most of the time to listen to them ourselves. I find the bass in the Z2300s to be a little strong when the dial on the control pod is set to it's standard position, but I can always lower it by turning that dial.

it might "sound good to your ear" when you listen to sample X. because that sample is such that it sounds better with say... boomy bass.
Or because you damaged your ears with so much booms that you can't hear anything else...

But the whole point they are making is that ACCURATE reproduction of the sound is the most important.. if it is more accurate then it will consistently sound good on everything.
While those boomy bass speakers only sound good (and possibly even better) on things which require lots of booming bass. (assuming you actually ENJOY exaggerated bass, which not everyone does)

I am looking for the same things... anyone knows if the bose 2.1 desktop speakers are worth what they go for?

The bass isn't that big on the Z2300. You CAN turn it down which I do almost all the time. I haven't damaged my ears. I don't go around in my car with my speakers turned all the way up with the bass booming. I hate it when people do that. Whenever I'm listening (at home or in my office or in my car, etc.) I usually have the volume just a notch above the point where it's too low to hear whatever I listen to. I value my senses so I don't do stupid things that might damage them and I do what I can to keep them "intact".

Anyway, how does everyone know what accurate sound is supposed to sound like when everyone doesn't hear everything the same?

Forget the logitechs. Get a decent pair of studio monitors for music. Or if you want computer speakers then get the klipsch promedia 2.1 (if you can find for cheap) or edifier s2.1d. The edifiers if you can still find them will probably be around $60 and they're on par with the klipsch. Only problem is near maximum volumes they start to saturate.

because i know you will hear everything + more on on a speaker set with bigger drivers than the 2inchers on the logitechs that you're married to. and what y ou hear in store has nothing to do with what you'll hear at home. pre-selected music, pre-selected environment, variable ambient noise, damaged samples. if u can't find a sample to listen to its best to go by dedicated experienced reviews

if you couldn't care less about range, or highs... why not invest in some of these from newegg

I would get the new Swan M10's in a flash if I needed speakers. I've never heard Swan's at all but their full size speakers get great reviews at audioreview, and they appear to be a high end speaker company....their top of the line monitors go for about 68 grand. Years ago I bought Boston Acoustics speakers when they sold 2.1 desktop systems and have always believed a dedicated speaker company is the way to go. I would also look at the Bose 2.1 systems for quality, but they are quite expensive.

I tend to disagree. Many of higher end gear are known to be moderately distorted one way or another, except in a euphonic way. If he needed some studio monitors for music production, it would have been a whole different story, oh well

can you tolerate hollow mids and piercing (ouch) highs? perhaps some boomy and bass to go with that... you might be ok with the cheap "multimedia" klipsch then. I heard their real stuff for good bit of money sound great, but as far as any of their computer speaker lineup I heard was very unimpressive. Oh, just IMHO. Movies should be OK but I never enjoyed music on my x-roomate's klipsch.

I think swans sound much nicer, but some find them too warm and the while the quality of bass is better but the quantity might be lacking depending on what you are looking for. The new swans sound promising, but I will have to hear more feedback on those...

Lately I have been using my midilands with swans, seems to work well for me.
