Go with the 2GB Wintec 667 kit at newegg, it's $85 now free shipping. And if you think the price difference is worth DDR2 800, then I think you should also step that E4300 up to an E4400 because IMO the 10x multi is worth the extra $20 or w/e.

I just put together a system with it, and am very pleased..

Can u pls tell me what kinda overclocks u gettin with it... any problems with it? does the chipset fan get 2 hot... needs replacement? did the shipped bios support brisbane? Hows the Sound, how about Lan?
LAN and Sound are fine. NF4 is pretty well tried and tested.
1394 is nice xtra for a board at this price..

I have got a 6000 running 250 x 12 to get the Memory at 1000 .. , but I can't comment on overclocking beyond that ..

Maybe I can play with dropping the multi and taking it up past 300 and see what happens.

I believe the notes at DFI on the latest BIOS says it supports Brisbane ... I'll have to see
what level my BIOS is..

Yeah pls if u can drop the multi to 9.5 say.... and try to get it like 300 fsb or higher if it goes... I hope the board does support 9.5 multiplier since thats what the stock multi of the 3600 is... on the first page u linked to a dfi link saying that it did support the Brisbane cpus... so i think thats fine.
Does the board experience any of cold boots ( like unable to save settings while overclocked) and if the overclock is higher than maximum does the board boot to default stock settings.... or u have to go pull out the cmos...
thanks for the info

@f4phantom
I already have bought 2 gigs of the G.Skill NQ ddr2-800 for $110

Hey, Yoxxy. Thinking of lending a hand to this OC Guide thread? You had the best C2D OC Guide thread going for a long time.

I just repriced your Intel budget O/C system since I want to upgrade my MCE 2005 box and noticed almost a $35 price drop if you order everything from eWiz:

- Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E4300 CPU, OEM - $108.15
- Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Fan For Intel CPU - $19.50
- GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 3.3 mobo - $117.00
- Super Talent DDR2-800 2GB (2x1GB) CL5 Kit - $99.88

Sub Total

$344.53

-$5 if you use a coupon that I can't post here (search for eWiz on Slickdeals and you might find the coupon posted in one of their other RAM deals)

+$12.69 for UPS Ground

$352.22 total

If you read the description of the DS3 that eWiz sells, note that it does include the ALC888 audio chipset and is Vista Premium certified which positively indicates it's a rev 3.3 board.

I was aware of savings in shipping if u bought the parts from same etailer... but I never got around of somehow reflecting it in the main post.... now its all changed and updated.

Nice find on the ds3 revision number... I thought Clubit was the only one to guarantee a rev 3.3 board... but the specs in the ewiz show that theirs should also be 3.3
thanks for the tip.

NP, glad I could add something to the post you put together since I benefited from it when I went shopping for my upgrade. Thanks for taking the time!

Yeah I have listed the Trio from the newegg... nice deal... also the corsair its at 69.99 only after 20 MIr and 10 off from google checkout... both good deals.

I hear so many bad things about AMD lately... i donno if i should go with that setup or not now... nothing can make me happy now... intel has no upgrade future.... amd almost about to go out of bussiness

I thought i had an old pci vidcard so i could use it with the new system until after r600 is released and maybe some prices go down.... but it turns out the frikin thing is agp not pci... now i gotta wait... decisions decisions

Hmm, Porsche or Kia, at the same price? You'll want to buy the Corsair, I promise.

Can anyone running the Fortron/FSP AX-450-PN comment on how loud it is? I've got a Sonata 2 case with 2 Yates-Loon 120mm x 25mm fans, an AC Freezer 7 Pro, and a Zalman cooler on my video card. Just curious if this is an appropriate replacement for the aging units in my desktop PC and possibly my media center.

AnotherGuy,

I've been wondering why you're talking about SLI on this thread.

From everything I've seen and heard, SLI is a waste at the moment... a single 8800GTX could trounce any lesser two cards in SLI, for less money. Same goes for a single 8800GTS. And I don't think anyone needs 2 x 8800GTX in SLI for any game out there except if they have a 30" Dell monitor. And is someone with a 30" monitor really going to buy an e4300 CPU with only 2mb cache, instead of at least an E6600 or a quad-core?

Take a look at this thread: to sli or not to sli

I never recommended SLI in my suggestions.... as u see both boards are single pci_e mobos. I only mention it when deciding about a power supply... maybe u already have a 8800gts and u wanna get another 1 or for whatever reason u decide to have sli.... and u want to know what power supply to get... u have the suggestion... I never said SLI is recommended.

Prices are going down beyond what i thought btw... both systems are getting cheaper n cheaper.... and I have to say Ewiz is almost the cheapest option to go with... But i wouldnt cross the line to say its better than Newegg or not... since i have no personal experience with them with returning items or customer satisfaction.

I don't want to totally rule out the DFI Infinity M2 but Mine spit out 2 3600 Brisbanes. (One of which did 2.8G at 1.35V then other 2.7). Neither one would go over 2.6 without beeping or crashing in the DFI. Yes I did flash the BIOS otherwise it would not even POST. I also so cold boot problems which I've not seen on any of my other boards. The same setup is running a Windsor at 2.64. I've heard of other people getting the board and X3600 to 3.0G.
I've ordered the 5600 Windsor for the board and if it bombs then DFI will get the board.

T550 and FSP 400 or 450 get my vote. Most of my PSUs are the FSP 300-450AX/PX models.

No ones replied here for a while so here's a little update..

The prices on my in progress system build are continuing to drop, here they are currently:

Intel C2D E4300 - $103.81

Cooler Master Centurion 534 RC - $65.98

Corsair HX520 - $85

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - 26.31

Gigabyte GA-P965-DS3 - $122.76

*Already Bought*
2gb OCZ Platinum Revision 2 - $112.80

FINAL PRICE: $516.66
-BEFORE REBATES: $586.66

***The mobo, CPU and fan are bought from ewiz. So I took the total shipping of these items together, divided it by 3 and added that individual number ($4.31) to each item.

This is obviously specific to my build because I haven't included a graphics card yet and already bought the OCZ (which is cheaper now).

Thought I'd breathe some life into this thread and see what everyone is doing as far as building one of these systems.

I originally planned on getting an OEM E4300 to save some bucks, but now I am reconsidering. I kind of want the warranty. Obviously I'll be over clocking but I've heard of plenty of people who made use of the warranty while OCing (there's no way of testing if the CPU has been OC'd?). Plus it's always good to have the warranty and return policy in case you get a CPU from a crappy batch that barely OC's. Return/RMA it as defective and if you are lucky you get a new one

So I guess the question is OEM or retail?
