Dude, you try using this monitor with a card like that?

Look - tough as this may seem to you - better graphics cards give better signals.

I bought a very good GeForce2GTS card a few years back, and based my decision on how excellent it was in 2D - not as good as the Matrox G400Max, but not bad. The other card I have used with my 22" Mitsu 2070SB is the Radeon 9700Pro. Both of these cards are perfectly capable of running very high res, high Hz.

My GeForce2GTS can go up to 1600x1200@100Hz without text burring (higher res does make it blur)
My Radeon can go up to 2048x1536@75Hz without blurring (although 85Hz does blurr)

Basically, what I am saying is: Its not the Monitor at fault by the sounds of it, although I can't tell properly because you havnt told us what graphics card you use.

Do not just give up on this monitor just because the rest of your rig isnt capable of running it.

It could be the card but I would place my money it's the monitor.

Ok. main rig running on GF4 TI-4400. I mean, I'm not running it at super high resolution. Just normal 1280x1024 @ 100hz.

Have you tried 1600x1200@100Hz for example?
High res is not a problem for the 2070sb - try higher res.

GF4 4400 ought to be a decent 2D card - I'd have to research it a bit - but I think thats fine.

You're going to replace a Mitsubishi with a Nec? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't NEC/Mitsubishi one company when it comes to CRTs? I think that they merged their CRT businesses - check www.nec-mitsubishi.com. Or maybe there is a difference in the models, although the site only lists Mitsubishi CRTs?

Anyway - just a side note.. I got a 21" CTX yesterday and MAN IT'S HUGE. Is it so with all 21"? I'm asking since for the last two years I spend most of my time at work on a 19" CTX, but the 21" is just too big... I never imagined it'll be that enormous . Actually I'm at work now, and the 19" seems rather small.

You have money to burn or something?

Sounds like you going to get a shock when you replace this 2070 with another 22" and get exactly the same problem. Cus it aint the monitor unless the monitor is broke - or you cant set it up right. Simple as that.

no, i don have money to burn..replace as in replacement exchange.

Does it really take that much "skills" to set up a monitor? I plug the thing in and turn it on warmed up, messed wit the naviset settings and osm settings, it was still blurry. Adjusted two holes on the side then messed wit the software and the osm somemore...no difference. drivers propertly loaded right color profile, plugged into a different machine. I paid 700 bux for this monitor it should be at least usable right out of the box and u say this is not enough to make this monitor look *decent*??
This can only lead to broken monitor since everyone who has this monitor say its the best thing ever.

Here's a link to newegg's entire page of the best crt monitors made (and all of the 21" and 22" are $600 or less, well except the one that's a tiny bit over $600): link.

Sounds like you done everything important - However, try this:

Try these settings:
Moire canceller - 0%
Convergence - 50%
Convergence (V) - 50%
Edge Lock 2
IPM mode 1

Daft as it sounds, giving your monitor a different temperature may help - I use 9300k and 8200k depending upon game/document work.

Then double check your FH and FV settings in display mode in OSD.

If you still have issues, and it looks really awful - it must be the monitor.

If it just looks a bit bad, it could well be the graphics card - tell me exactly what make and model it is please, I'll see if I can dig up info on it.

I have a leadtek GF4 Ti-4400. I adjusted to all the settings that you listed but no change. When you say double check FH and FV. do you mean the HZ thats display in the osd?? If so, which should be a proper FV and FH? The text is not horrible horrible not it doesnt look like its from a 700 bux monitor. The colors are real good tho. I'm only running 1280x1024 at 100hz...does the videocard matters that much? I swear soo many ppo that reviewd this monitor at new egg kept mentioning the "RAZOR" sharp text. I really wonder what im missing...

Ok, as far as I can tell then, its got to be your gfx card...

If you want to try another one, you may be able to pick up a cheap Matrox card (excellent at 2D) - but seen as you have a 4400 I guess you do some gaming too?

Btw, mine runs at
127.5kHz
100.3Hz

-from 1600x1200 res... @ 100Hz

Yours should be basically identical at that res and set Hz rating (just another way to test monitor is fine).

Why do you guys keep saying that there's something wrong with his video card? First of all, a Ti4400 has 2d quality that's way better than ATI's cards. Secondly, if he wasn't having problems with text on the monitor he just replaced, there can't be anything wrong with his card.

1. I'd like to know how you can assert that the 4400 has "WAY better 2d quality" than ANY ATi card...
2. We don't know what settings he used on his old monitor, maybe he never tried going up to 100Hz?

My story, i had a sony that died. Always ran 800x600 cause i dont wear glasses at puter. Got a Diamondpro and started throwing up high resolutions to test it. Low resolutions were razor sharp but there was definate blurrying of text at higher ones, I would get up closer to the monitor and the text was still blurred. Well I put on my glasses and behold all resolutions were equally RAZOR sharp. My point is that your eyes can be the culprit though it looks like the monitor is defective in pic quality at high resolutions. High resolutions put a incredible strain on your eyes. My sight is not bad either, I use glasses just for driving and do not need them anyother time. Dont forget to rule out the human factor.

Leadtek Ti4400 has good 2D display. Have you tried increasing DPI under Display settings>advanced>general to something bigger like 120? I use custom 110% DPI with my Sony G520P at 1600x1200 and I find my text sharp even compared w/ Dell 2001FP LCD which I have running next to it. But you're using 1280x1024 so text should be big and nice. You might also try 85hz refresh rate to see if it makes text clearer.

Thank you very much for all your help.
