Best 24" 120Hz monitor? (re: for gaming, smoother motion, etc)

What's currently the best 120 Hz 24" monitor? (23.6" is acceptable I guess, because it seems like almost every 120 Hz uses that size instead of a true 24")

I'm looking to use it primarily for gaming but I'm definitely not a hardcore gamer.

I'll be powering the monitor with 2x GTX 480 (SLI).

I'd also like to use NVidia 3D Vision but I'm not sure how much 3D gaming that I will do. (some, but probably not a ton) I'll mostly interested in the 120 Hz for smoother motion but I definitely want to at least try the NVidia 3D stuff.

I've also thought about waiting for a monitor with HDMI 1.4a support (as well as 120 Hz input for NVidia 3D but the more I think about it, I probably don't need the HDMI 1.4a support since 3D gaming on the PS3/360 is pretty much a waste)

Competitive gamers have been saying that the Alienware 120 hz monitor is the single best monitor for gaming.

This opinion doesn't consider image quality though

that Viewsonic is a 22" 1680x1050 screen. i wouldn't get that.

Viewsonic does have the V3D241wm-LED and the newer version V3D245 (dont know about availability). they are 24", 1080p, LED backlit, 120Hz.

i'm contemplating getting a 120Hz screen, my decision is between ACER GD235HZ and LG W2363D. they both cost the same where i live, and i'm leaning more towards the LG.

of course, there is always the AlienWare (DELL), it just costs more.

From what I gather most of the 120hz LCD's on the market aren't very good in terms of image quality. Responsivness is supposed to be quite nice though.

The LED pc monitor has 5ms response time. No good for gaming, mouse wont be smooth and instant. lots of ghosting and what not.

Try 1ms ,, Plays exactly like my CRT Sony 22.5 wide screen. At first I knew it would be horrible and laggy mouse with vsync on ,, and not instant like CRT . Well to my supriise this thing plays just like my CRT ,, thats coming from a guy you used that FW900 for 11 years. thx

Prove it, show me a LED with 1ms ? thought so. soundmander

That was not my point, my point was that the 5ms response time of a panel causes "ghosting, non-smooth mouserizing, no instataneousness" and is "not good for gaming".
You've been duped if you believe any of that.
You probably think your monitor has a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 too.
It's all specification BS.

Yup no words to say cuz Im right.
LED = 5ms ,, that is all IM saying nothing else...
would you stop with the nonsense? LED backlighting is just to make monitors thin and more efficient. your monitor being fast has nothing to do with it not being LED backlit from what I can see. and there are 2ms LED monitors and tvs so not all are 5ms.

and his point is that specs are not always accurate. in fact your 1ms monitor was no more responsive than some 5ms monitors in some review I saw a while back.

This was my point, let's see if he misses it twice.

I like my Alienware, no stuck pixels and I really like it. I can't go back to 60hz. It looks good and I've had no problems. Got it on sale and can't complain. The ASUS one I got has developed a stuck pixel that I need to try and get out. Besides that though it is a good monitor too and you can't go wrong with either one.

Which 120Hz ASUS display - 23.6"? And which one do you like better?

Displays are subjective and specs are meaningless. The best way is to set two displays side-by-side.

i have a 30" 2560x1600 HP LP3065 and you cannot beat the color reproduction. OtOH, my ASUS 120Hz display is better for fast paced shooters; and there is the 3D option as it is extremely bright also. i like them both and have no problem switching between them.

The ASUS VG236HE, the 23" one. I really can't say which I like better, though I suppose I'd go with the Alienware. One has a glossy screen (ASUS) while the Alienware isn't. I don't have a glare problem so either works. They're both great, but I would have gotten two ASUS to be honest had the Alienware not been on sale at the time bringing it into line with the price of the ASUS.

i have 3 x ASUS VG236HE and i have to thank Nvidia for them; nice choice for 3D Vision. 3D Vision demands that your display's brightness can be cranked up and these ASUS LCDs deliver in spades.

Ideally the OP or anyone considering a new display should be able to audition it in their own home or at a retail outlet. At the least, buy it from a retailer with a good return policy. i really think that the 120Hz displays really have advantages (besides S3D) over 60Hz for fast paced shooters and there is simply no need for "perfect colors" or off-screen viewing.

Just flipping through Windows and doing all that stuff is a huge change compared to a 60hz monitor. It really is like night and day. I was very tempted to do a 3 monitor setup, but I really don't have the room right now so that will have to wait for the future sometime. I'd love to play World of Warplanes with a 3 monitor setup.

I just do not get why 120hz seems to fix issues that crts do not even have at 60hz. dragging windows looks exactly the same at 85hz as it does at 60hz on my crt. yet using an LCD, 60hz looks like poo just moving stuff around. the monitor I am abut to return seems to have some judder in games just when looking around yet my CRT looks just fine at 60hz doing the same thing.

I have the LG and it hasn't broken down. It is probably the best 120hz monitor out there for gamers as it has very low response, input lag, ghosting, etc while still having pretty good colours and a matt screen. Buttons and stand do suck however.

Really? I'm starting to think I'm having problems with my eyesight.
I just don't see THAT much of a difference. I mean sure, if I move a window fast enough on my 120hz and then again on the 60hz and watch closely then yeah, i'll see a difference, but I just don't see it when gaming.
