Best 24'' monitor for competitive gaming and good image quality for movies and web

IT is hard to choose a good 24'' panel. All sorts of people recommend me different things.
Anyway I play games a lot and I'm bit afraid of the low latency issue. I don't want to give the other players an edge because of that. But I also surf the web a lot, watch movies and work on the PC so a good all around monitor would be nice.

What would you recommend?

The key here is competitive gaming...hence, little/no lag, which likely means TN for you. The BenQ G2400WD/V2400W are hard to beat for the price, and is a great all around monitor too. Great colors & text, virtually no lag, multiple inputs, 1:1. I have one and play shooters almost exclusively. Coming from a high end CRT I used for 10 yrs I can happily say it was a great choice.

I'm looking for the same thing but for a 26 inches monitor. Also i'm not in a hurry so i'd like to know if there's some awesome products worth waiting for.

Thanks

Cometer,

As I posted in your other topic, I'd highly recommend an HP LP2475. I've played Counterstrike and CS: Source on it without any perceptible input lag. In my book, if it can play CS and CS:S competitively, it's great for gaming. Viewing angle, tilting options, and etcetera are great, too. Got my Wii plugged into one of the inputs and coming out my PC Speakers.

There are two exceptions:

1. Are you a "hardcore gamer" who is competitive to the point that an extra 3ms input lag will be a bother?

2. Do you have friends/whatever over to watch movies/games/etc on your monitor?

If you answered Yes to number one and No to number two, I'd recommend a BenQ G2400WD. Worse color accuracy and much worse viewing angle, but less input lag and a lot cheaper.

I think the HP LP2475 seams like a very good choice.. the Beng G2400WD was what I was considering but the visual quality of the HP LP2475 is better..
I heard of two problem though . Some people say that to the right of the panel it seams more redish, the other is that due to the wide-gamut images don't seam right in certain applications. Then again that's color accuracy stuff.
Also IPS are more prone to dead pixels right? Also many reviews don't recommend the panel for gaming..why is that? I saw a video on testfreaks with a crt and this monitor and i didn't perceive any lag.
I'm really starting to incline towards the LP2475 but I heard so many good stuff about the G2400WD during last year that I'm on the safe side. But an IPS panel is probably a better investment.

So my question is Eluros. Have you perceived any problems with your panel?

Also I need 1:1 pixel mapping

Lasoski311,

if u dont mind it being orange this is a very good specd monitor

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16824009155

Pretty sure the Benq I listed was both better and cheaper, although I may be mistaken... been awhile since I checked the price, for one.

Cometer,

Some people say that to the right of the panel it seams more redish

I've never experienced a problem with it myself, never noticed a problem with it, even in dark movies or while working in Paint.Net

the other is that due to the wide-gamut images don't seam right in certain applications

Perhaps... to be frank, I'm not 100% what this means or whether it's really a problem. Afraid I can't help you in this regard.

again that's color accuracy stuff.

Easily remedied with a Colorimeter, or whatever it's called.

Also IPS are more prone to dead pixels right?

No dead pixels on mine. My coworker just got the BenQ, a TN, and it has a dead pixel... he's extremely unhappy right now...

Also many reviews don't recommend the panel for gaming..why is that? I saw a video on testfreaks with a crt and this monitor and i didn't perceive any lag.

One reason why this is such a highly-recommended IPS is because it has unusually low input lag. I wouldn't recommend many others for any sort of gaming.

No perceived problems with my panel. I do believe the questions I posed earlier, in addition of course to the financial concern, ought to be driving forces... I haven't known any of the HP LP2475W's to have dead pixels, while I'm dealing with someone as we speak (my coworker I mentioned) who just had one on his BenQ.

Peace!

Here's a review of the HP LP2480zx, it's not the 2475 model but it should give you an idea.

http://www.lesnumeriques.com/article-240-4020-23.html

The input lag is almost 2 frames. Which is bad in my book for gaming. I have a Samsung 245BW, i'm very satisfied with the performance but i'd like a monitor with better colors. If your computer is set up on a big table like mine, I suggest you go straight for a 26 inches !

For a hardcore gamer like me, I think the monitor market isn't too exciting these days, only old models are worth buying and their price have stopped dropping. I prefer to look at the futur and be patient.

You can buy a Dell 2408WFP off eBay for $370 revision A01 but it is refurbished. The seller has sold a ton of them and all but a few feedback comments said the monitor arrived with no dead pixels or any other problems.

Plus do not forget about the 11% MS cash back you can save from the $370 price.

currently a 25" i-inc 1080p for $200 at tigerdirect.
it's not 1920x1200 but it's only $200.
dunno so much about colors as it's the first 1080p monitor that i've seen that's >24".

No, he said good for competitive gaming. That means no noticable input lag, which knocks out nearly all VA-based panels, and especially anything Dell's used in the 24" size.

I'm going insane with what monitor to pick here.. I hear good things and bad thing about the HP LP2475. Some say input lag is very low and won't affect gaming others say it will. Then again others rave about the ASUS VW226H. But others talk the Samsung T240HD is very good.

My options are limited to what is available at
http://www.pccomponentes.com/MONITORES-4.html

I don't mind going paying as much as the listed HP IPS panel. That is not the problem. The real problem is I play games a lot. Fast paced games. And even though some amount of lag is enough I don't want it to hinder my response time in games. At the same time I use my monitor for pretty much everything. I'm a software developer and completely addicted to computers..Watch lots of movies on my PC and so on. But yes most of the time I spend playing games.

From that list isn't there an agreement on what would be a good monitor for the type of user I am?

Probably should go with the Benq G2400WD. From the LCD thread seams to be a consistent monitor on the different categories. What do you guys think?

Reviews on suggested monitors

Dell 2408WFP has bad colors
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/article-240-3161-88.html

The ACER G24 would be a good choice if you like the color of the monitor, but the ergonomy is horrible ; you won't be able to adjust it to your liking.
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/article-240-3788-38.html

The Samsung T240HD is really nice for movies
http://www.lesnumeriques.com/article-240-3580-36.html

but it's not very fast for gaming, 2 frames of input lag (in "Etape 3" choose "...... CRT")

http://www.lesnumeriques.com/d...6&mo2=387&p2=3580&ph=1

The BENQ G2400WD is a good recommandation and is better all around compared to my Samsung 245BW, however it's getting old.
BENQ realeased new HD monitors like the E2400HD, I haven't seen reviews yet. The problem with those new monitors is that you'll end up playing in weird resolutions like 1600x1050, which i think isn't compatible with all the games. I must admit I didn't do my homework on that statement, you'll have to check it out.

Is it just me or are these expensive panels such a rip-off? 500$ for 24 inches is soo 90s. As much as I dislike this 1080p trend, I hate paying too much for a screen. Didn't we learn enough from overpaying on video cards?

Anyway, I bought a Dell 2409 and while I don't game competitively, I think it suits my needs for all the other stuff. I do game once in a while and paired with an HD4870, the output looks great.

Hello all!
Cometer, i read your aim when buying a monitor, and it is exactly what i want too!

Probably like you, i´ve read lots and lots of reviews, and the truth is i´m equaly confused. I love the LP2475w, but the lack of approval on games, remains a splinter on my decision, otherwise, i would buy it blindfolded ;-)

Not to make a bigger confusion on your head, and i know you want a 24inch, but not much bigger is the LGw2600HP and i´ve read many good things about it, in respect of games. and overall a good image quality (S-IPS)
The bad things of it (in my opinion): Only one dvi, no hdmi. needed cable. and a slightly big pixel pitch Pixel size [mm]: 0.2865. but again, i need someone who has the monitor to tell me if that is important :-(
http://www.prad.de/en/monitore...ers-guide/gamer24.html

I almost given up on the TN´s... i know almost all ppl say they are great for their input lag, but what about the other stuff?

At the time, i´m between the hp lp24 and the lgw26. if i were on the tn side, i would be between the usual t240 t260 (no hd on my opinion), and the asus vw266h.

I´ll be watching this thread.. hope i finally decide on what to do, and best of luck to you too!

If gaming is your top priority then get the BenQ G2400WD, it is fast and the colors/image quality/text are pretty good (not the best). I got one and it's very nice.

I just "upgraded" from an LG 227wtg to an HP lp2475w in the last few days. First let me say that I consider the LG227wtg very nice for a TN panel monitor. I don't consider myself a hardcore game but I am fairly sensitive when it comes to input lag. I also don't do any image or movie editing so I actually prefer the wide gamut monitors where the colors have a high contrast and "pop" out but not over saturated. Occasionally I watch movies on my monitor so they have to display those properly also.

I performed an unscientific personal test comparing lag on both monitors by playing L4D, BioShock and Crysis connecting the monitors one at a time to a BFG GTX295 video card. The difference in lag between the two is slightly noticeable, but not bothersome at all to me. Obviously everyone has different eyes and brains and interprets things differently.

Overall I am extremely happy with the build quality of the HP. The colors on the HP are better and the text sharpness seems approximately the same. There is zero dead or stuck pixels, close to zero backlight bleed, and a extremely slight blueish tint on the right side of the screen that is only noticeable on white backgrounds and if I am actively looking for it.

My only regret is that moving from 22" to 24" was less climatic than I thought it would be. I highly recommend to anyone buying a monitor to try and view it in person if at all possible. I didn't have this luxury but took a chance based on multiple web reviews and won. After the using the HP for a few days I can highly recommend it.

One thing I forgot to mention that helped sway my decision is the excellent (based on other owners personal experience) 3 year on-site warranty included with the HP. I don't know about anyone else but I like the idea of not having to pack and ship a 24" monitor for warranty repair leaving me without a big screen for a week or longer.

OP-Is size a consideration? If not then go to Ebay/Craigslist and get a Sony GDM-FW900. Lag non-issue and better color reproduction than the LCDs. Also better black levels. Lcds will have better geometry.

It is big and bulky. I have one and it's fantastic for gaming. When they originally came out they were 2K+.
