Best 500watt PSU for around $50

I just ordered a 6800 ultra but now I need a psu of at least 480 watts. What is the best one I can get for around $50?

I love it when people balk at paying more for a decent PSU, spend $700 of a video card, have it get fried, and then run into RMA troubles.

Save at least $90. Unless you think saving $40 is worth risking all the cash you dished out on that vid card.

You ordered a $450 video card and you want to pair it with a $50 PSU? Good luck with that.

And you don't need a PSU quite that powerful if it's a quality brand. Sheesh, drop $80 and get a Tagan, Enermax, or something along those lines. They're not top-shelf, but at least they won't explode when you flip the power switch.

Enermax and Fortron.

I wished I had opted for a Fortron. My Enermax is very solid/strong, but I have come to believe that Fortron is the best bang-for-buck PSU around.

Zippy/EMACS and PC Power and Cooling are state of the craft. Fortron has been making PSUs for over twenty years and are reputable,

the price difference between the blue storm i linked and that enermax luka18 linked isn't worth the cost of the 20-pin to 24-pin adapter cheesetogo would need with it.

Dude, you do NOT need a 500 watt psu for an ULTRA, I'll tell you right now, a quality 420 watt psu for example, OCZ 420 watt will run that ultra just fine, by 480 watts they mean a pos psu, its more like 400 watts.

You've been beaten up enough (rightfully so, IMO) so I won't pile on. What I will suggest, if you insist on going cheap, is this Thermaltake 420w power supply. For $45.98 shipped it's tough to beat.

Ew, low 12v rail.

I would avoid.

Fortron Blue storm or if you like a cheap one, Ultra 600W Xfinity (Zipzoomfly = 59 dollars shipped)

Yep,you notice here ,they seem to be related to Tagan,so probably why they have 3 year warranty and insides of the PSU look similar.

What is the +5V rail used for anyway? I'm not as familiar with PSUs. I do know alot of good ones like the Fortron Bluestorm only has 28A on +5V, but then there are others who go up to 55A, not sure why?

Antec is between Middle end and High end, Their amps arn't that high, I would consider Forton, PCP & C, OCZ high end, although i'm not trying to say there is anything wrong with antec.
