Indeed. If you consider Antec high-end your expectations of high-end are set too low. There is nothing wrong with being middle-range. Antec makes great consumer stuff, but that's what it is.

Ok, he wasn't completely wrong.
They make both mid and high end psu's.

Seems like all computer junkies are 3rd Party PSU fanboys. You're all like OMG if your PSU didnt cost atleast $XXX then its a piece of shit. The days of PSU's catching fire is over, chill on the expensive PSU crap.

Well, I haven't put my 520W SuperFlower that I got from Directron in a case yet. (Minor mounting problem, the Chieftec case from TigerDirect came with an unusual custom vertically-oriented mounting-bracket backplate, and the SuperFlower PSU has a wire grille on the rear exhaust fan that protrudes slightly and interferes with a flush mounting against the backplate. So I put the 360W Chieftec supply into the case instead, it has a flush grille.)

But the models that Directron sells, seems to be the slightly older ones with slightly lower amps on the 12V rail; the way things are going these days, you probably want a newer Fortron with a 22-30A 12V rail. The SuperFlowers are like 18-20A. Otherwise, it seems like a fairly hefty and solid supply. If I was going to build a high-end rig with an A64/P4 and a high-end video card, I'd probably spring for that Fortron "blue storm" supply too. It looks really sweet.

I choose my PSU's based on brand, not price.
But the funny thing is, the price kinda does reflect the quality of the product you are buying.

It used to be that the most heavily-loaded rail was the +5V rail, used for nearly everything, including CPU/DRAM/AGP VRMs, etc. The SuperFlower 520W that I mentioned has 42A on the +5V.

Hey, schmuck, it's not like anybody's telling him to go pick up a PCP&C for two hundred bucks. You go ahead and put an MGE supply in your expensive system if you want to, I'll stick with Antec and above.

480W Thermaltake Silent Purepower - $58
Thermaltake is overrated, and that 18a rating on the 12v rail seems really low, but it should work.

Slightly more expensive -- and better -- options:

480W Tagan - $79

450W CoolerMaster Realpower - $79

I'm aware of that but many may read the thread and it helps them decide as well. The Rosewill are pretty good bang for your buck PSU from what I've read.

I just bought an $80 PSU for $50 here on the forums a few days ago. I believe it is an Antec truepower 420, 20a on the 12volt rail. That should be enough to power everything you need. Just look for a deal.

All you did was bump a thread in which the topic has come to a conclusion.
