Best 55-65 inch TV for gaming around $1000?

Hey guys,

So here's the thing. I'm currently using a 42-inch Panasonic Viera Plasma (TC-P42U2) for about the past 5-6 years or so.

It has been wonderful, and the picture has been terrific.

I plan on keeping it, but am thinking about relegating it to the spare room, and upgrading to something a bit bigger for our living room.

I'd like to go for something in the 55"-60" range. Obviously, a little bigger is fine (65"), but I don't want to sacrifice on picture quality just to get a bigger screen.

  • 55-65 inches
  • 1080p (obviously), 4K is NOT a deal breaker
  • Picture/Image quality is paramount
  • To be used primarily for gaming, light movie/TV watching
  • Feature set is not terribly important
  • Looking to spend no more than ~$1,000 or so (obviously less is better!)

As this is obviously a decent investment and something I'd be looking at for the next several years, I'm trying to do a fair amount of research before pulling the trigger.
Locally, I have Best Buy, Target, Micro Center, Meijer, Wal-Mart, HHGregg and a handful of others for whatever that is worth.

Any feedback and suggestions would be much appreciated!

When I was doing research a few month ago Vizio seemed to have a good rep for gaming and were good value for the money.

I can vouch for Sony's Game Mode to reduce input lag to a level I can't notice it even when running from my PC.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Is there any particular specification I should look for to indicate how good/bad a particular TV is at reducing input lag?
Or is this just something that can vary from set model to model?

Also, is it something that would be noticeable on the showroom floor?

You should really check out the review sites like cnet, techradar and tomsguide. Much better than just asking random people for advice.

Google "tv reviews 2015".

I've checked, and continue to check, sites like those.

That's a part of the process, but so is gathering opinions and hearing experiences from knowledgeable owners and users, who have a reputation and have been here for years, and know of what they speak. Hardly random.

Unless they have a pc hooked up to it with a mouse cursor you can move around you might not be able to notice a difference. It is night and day when I enable game mode on my tv.

I know a couple people who have brought their laptop to play back videos from to a TV they were looking at. That way they know the source material. I don't know if that's an option for you but maybe if you could get them to let you do that in the store you can check the game mode and move the mouse to see if there is noticeable lag for you.
