Looking to buy a new 6800 Ultra. There are, however, a lot of vendors out there that make these and after some lengthy research, have figured out that they are all pretty much close to each other performace wise. The only differences are whats being included in each vendors box with the card.

I really don't care about what the vendors include with their card, rather my main concern is buying a 6800 Ultra card that is non-PCIe, that has a great reputation and is rock solid with a great warranty.

xFx, Asus, Leadtek, BFG, MSI, Albatron, etc. etc.

Any ideas?

I've got an EVGA 6800 Ultra and its pretty badass...but I would go with BFG because of their lifetime warranty

Why get ultra ? Pay the same and get the super-duper Gainward 6800GT Golden Sample "Goes Like Hell" version. Certified to work 400/1200. Those memories are sweet! 1.6ns (over 2 other use) and certified/guaranteed to work at 1200. Damn I wish this was out 1 month ago when I got the "normal" 6800 gt gs from gainward. Price difference = $40

My Ultra has 1.6ns Samsung chips. I know PNY and others were using 2.0ns stuff, but from what I've seen, BFG and eVGA have been pretty good about memory.

Whichever Ultra comes clocked at 425 by default seems the best to me. Or that Gainward.

My EVGA came 425/1100....havn't tried overclocking it yet as there really hasn't been any need to. This is the 3rd EVGA card ive owned, Ti-500, fx5900. I could overclock the 5900 like a mutha with no problems. EVGA so far been good for I&I.

I remember when visiontek was top of the game, and they had their lifetime warranty, and everyone reccomended them...

My Golden Sample GT is only warranted for Ultra speeds (400/1100) not 1200 memory. Also, mine came with 2.0ns RAM.

Why pay the same for that as for BFG's oc'ed Ultra that has a better warranty and also has a 25Mhz core overclock that will matter more than a 100Mhz increase in memory speed?

And OC'd out of the box. That's what I have. Got it from BB online for $492 about 6 to 8 weeks ago.

I guess nobody has taken a look at XFX , here's a review of it.

Quote:"We managed to overclock the XFX GeForce from its default clock speeds up to 462/1200MHz, which isn't too bad when you consider that the reference clock speeds for the standard GeForce 6800Ultra are 400/1100MHz - we're capable of operating this graphics card at a 62MHz faster core clock and 100MHz extra on the memory."

Not bad eh?

MSI has a good cooling fan.

BFG, its OC'd 25mhz by default
Same as MSI though I'm running nVidia's reference BIOS because I prefer proper timings and clocks.

Well the Leadtek and Gainward are the 2 best, they have the best coolers on them.. so the choice is up to you.. You can overclock any Ultra or GT... i was going to get the Gainward, but then i remembered about the problem they had before with the last generation... they had to call back alot of them.. the Checker Board crash, they also handled the situation very poorly.. but i think the problem should be fine now... first of all, any brand you buy will give you the same performance, you'll probably get 1 or 2 FPS less or more on others..

I just ordered a 6800GT GS "Goes Like Hell" and I'm just wondering how this card holds up to a regular 6800 Ultra.

The funny thing is, if you changed the BIOS from the stock one to the nVidia reference BIOS, you've voided your warranty as surely as someone who changed the heatsink on their card. But you did it so your card would be slower.
