Best 7200RPM Hard Drive?

I am in the market to buy a new hard drive. No serial-ata or anything like that, just a normal 7200RPM with 8MB of cache. I need one that is quiet, reliable, and fast. I am thinking about getting the WESTERN DIGITAL WD1200JB SPECIAL EDITION drive. Please give me some suggestions.

Good choice. If you want super-quiet then get a seagate w/ 8mb cache.

I've had several of the WDC special edition drives and they are awesome - extremely fast, and I noticed a definite speed increase in everything I do once I installed my drive. Every once in a while someone will report that they get one that makes a whining noise, so buy it from a place where doing an RMA will be easy just in case (newegg.com has this drive for about $102 shipped).

In my opinion, this is the only way to go for an IDE drive.

I've been using the WD SE's since the get go but have started to switch back to the GXP series as the 180's have 8MB cache, 3yr warranty, and are quiet and bench faster.

The WD1200JBs are fast, but make sure you get the 'E' or 'F' and not the 'C' and 'D' revisions. The former are 80GB/platter versions which are significantly faster. Another good one to get would be the Hitachi/IBM 180GXP 120GB 8MB cache. Its extremely fast as well.

This is a great drive. I had two of these drives until I upgraded to SATA.
