Best 802.11 Adapters

Hello All,

I have not had a need to purchase new wireless adapters for quite sometime, however, it is time to upgrade from my orinoco 802.11b adapters on a Netgear router to something more modern.

I am curious what the best USB wireless adapters are right now?

Also, I am in need of a wireless router that has he ability to serve as a fileserver through a USB port and USB hard drive. I know Linksys and D-Link (I think) have offerings, but the reviews have been sub-par on both. Does anyone have a suggestion? I will not be able to run a dedicated fileserver box on this network, so it must be a router with a USB port for a hard drive.

If you buy a combo you tie your hands to few models that usually offer mediocre of everything (Mediocre Router, Mediocre Wireless, and Mediocre NAS server).

You can buy stand alone NAS and plug it to any Router.

NAS is more complicated issue and you should research it according to your specific needs.

I agree. Thank you for your response.

I should note that this is for my parents' house where I had set them up with a fileserver before, however, it is too complicated for them to maintain and I simply do not have the time to go there an fix any problems they have. However, they need the networked storage. I'm leaning towards one of the mediocre offerings, just because they will not care if they are not getting maximum throughput and the required range is minimal and through no more than one wall at any time.

Does anyone have a suggestion for adapters? Preferrably 802.11n, since that appears to be the latest technology.
