Wtf, wheres the option for Shia Labeouf?

Well on a serious note, Jack Nicholson... Every movie he is in is worth watching for his acting alone

I say Gary Oldman as well.

And how could you consider Kate Winslet to be underrated? Hasn't she been nominated for numerous awards during her carreer.?

Sean Connery plays a really good Sean Connery. But act, as in take on a persona other than Sean Connery? I just don't see it.

Dustin Hoffman can act. I didn't used to believe this as he plays Dustin Hoffman in so many of his movies. Then came Hook...
"You're Peter Pan?"
"You're Dustin Hoffman?"
"No!"
"No!"

Anyway, Bud Cort, especially the funeral scene.

Daniel Day-Lewis is not far behind, and Sir Ian definitely has his moments. Leo is incredible physically, but his diction is often distractingly amateur. Johnny Depp...I like the guy, and he's pretty good, but I'm still waiting to see this elite acting everyone talks about.

Overrated- Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Anthony Hopkins, Jack Nicholson, Christian Bale, Christopher Lee, Kevin Spacey, Bill Murray

Underrated- Tom Cruise, Bruce Willis, Kate Winslet, Dennis Quaid, Brad Pitt, Tim Curry, Sally Field, Keanu Reeves

Untapped potential- Colin Farrell, Louis Gossett Jr., Harrison Ford, Patrick Stewart, Ralph Macchio, Nicholas Cage, Cuba Gooding Jr., Sean Connery, Morgan Freeman, Christopher Lloyd

Notes

I didn't say all the overrated were worthless and all the underrated were gods, or any other retarded nonsense. Don't even start being utterly stupid.

Acting is a combination of physicality, intelligence, script memory, ad lib ability, charisma...a whole list of things. Being great at one or two of them doesn't necessarily mean you're great overall. Nor does being very good at a lot of them.

Figuring out how William Shatner can sometimes be so good when he's usually so bad is the real reason they built the LHC.

And, just kidding about Keanu Reeves :sun:

MOST of the actors on your "Over-rated" list can act and deliver their lines without "sounding---like---they---are---reading---them---from---a---cue---card."

Some of the actors on your "Under-rated" list can't say that...

A couple on that list are VERY good actors, but aren't "under-rated," while many on your "under-rated" list are actually over-rated.

Tom Cruise always plays Tom Cruise, no matter what movie he's in. It's the "look at how serious I am" look he puts on, regardless of the part.
Bruce Willis is ok, but no matter what the movie is, he plays pretty much the same character. IMO, he has no range.

Most of the actors on your "Un-Tapped Potential" list are pretty good actors, many are big box-office draws when they star in a movie. Ford, Freeman, Connery, all are GOOD actors, great leading men, but most of the rest should be relegated to supporting actor roles. (I like Cuba Gooding Jr. He has very good acting range...Nicholas Cage, not so much.)

Another actor who should be considered is Tom Hanks. Great actor, great range, good delivery of his lines. He's really grown as an actor since his "Bosom Buddies" days.

Umm who's out there overrating Christopher Lee? A 90 year old guy who is mostly known for low budget B horror movies in the 50's and 60's, and in the past decade, he had a couple medium-high profile roles in some genre movies. That's about it, there's no overrating of Christopher Lee going on.

And Untapped potential on Christopher Lloyd? Yeah untapped hammy overacting potential.

I really disliked him for some reason early in his career, maybe it's the pretty boy fad everyone had on him at the time but after seeing his films after Titanic, I'm convinced I was wrong about him. I'm a fan of his work now.

Others I like:
Brad Pitt & Edward Norton(Fight Club is one of my fav films)
Matt Damon (He has some versatility but I would'nt rate him best actor alive)
Samuel L Jackson
Will Smith
Harrison Ford

I can think of a lot of actors I like better than Sean Connery. He's awesome, but not the best alive.

For me it's Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Matt Daemon. With Fight Club and Rounders being two of my favorite movies ever.

My vote goes to Dicaprio too. He's convinced me with the wide array of works he's done.
