I believe the Gainward 7800gs+ will be faster then the 1950pro agp. It's actually a 7950gt with a 7800gs rapper. 24 pipes,512 megs of ram and easily clocks 550 core 1400 memory. Does a pci-e 7950gt beat a 1950pro pci-e ? Most places I look it does. One drawback is the 360.00$ price tag, but I think it still will be the fastest agp card, which is the op's question.

Just to back up what I said heres some benches http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2858&p=8

A link to the 7800gs+ (7950gt) specs. http://www.gainward.net/products/product.php?products_id=48

No, its a 7900GT in a 7800gs wrapper.

Sure it overclocks, but then I expect the X1950 Pro will too. By how much, well thats unknown atm.

The X1950 is significantly cheaper than the 7800GS+, and as we're on the subject of the OP's original question, well he asked for preferably an ATI.

The 7800GS+ isn't a bad card by any means, but its very overpriced, and the X1950 Pro will probably end up being better value overall, especially when its overclocked.

7800GS+ cannot be easily bought, for example newegg.com doesn't have it. X1950 pro in other hand will be probably made by many ATi chips OEMs, meaning that it won't be as pricey.

Whats the diffrence between a 7950gt and the 7800gs+??????? Don't say clock speed because the 7800gs+ is made to do 550 core 1400 memory, It's factory underclocked.
It has 512 memory! same core! G71 right I think. I thought the 7950gt was just a 7900gt with 512 ram?

I have read that a while ago, but the fact remains that the 7900 is only a down clocked version of his newer brother.

1950 Pro will Kill in AGP......

sorry

I hope the x1950pro does come out cheaper. It may drive the 7800gs+ price down. The Gainward card is a 7950gt, same core , same 512 megs ram, same everything as I just proved and will be faster then the x1950pro, but the 1950pro might be 50 bucks or so cheaper.

No, its NOT a 7950GT. Its a 7900GT with 512mb of ram.

When you buy it, it runs at 7900GT speeds. You HAVE to overclock it to reach 7950 speeds.

My 7900GT clocks to 650/1600, but it still isn't a GTX!

We should also presume that the X1950 Pro will be overclockable and should be much much easier to purchase than the elusive 7800GS+.

because the GS+ is only avail. from Gainward, and they no longer distribute their products in North America.

The gainward can be puchased from the Overclockers U.K. shipping is about 15 bucks with no tax.

Canterwood,
"When you buy it, it runs at 7900GT speeds. You HAVE to overclock it to reach 7950 speeds."

The card is meant to run at 550 '1400. Nvidia don't want Gainward to call it the 7900gt AGP or 7950gt AGP. It's a given(99.99999%) you will get it to 7950gt clocks is what i'm saying.

As said, the Gaywad has been $360 at overclockers.co.uk but is currently $420 + what, $40 more shipping? 1950Pro is half the price so even if there is a minor performance difference in favour of the former it is irrelevant. When factoring in IQ, power requirements, heat and HDCP there is no doubt which is best.

How do you know its not out?
The price just went up it was 199.00$ with a free game. It was cheaper then the 20 pipe version?

Gainward is still faster!

Well, the 7800GS+ hasn't been much less than $400 USD delivered anyway whereas PCIe models of the 1950Pro are available at ATI's estimated street price of $200 (indeed some have sold for $165 recently). The AGP estimate is $230.

The GS+ came out six months ago too. No doubt the price of the Pro AGP after six months will be even more favourable relative to the GS+ (now). But my advice to any owners is to dump it on a preverted nvidiaphile from whom it may still demand a premium -after all no sane person would buy one now

Faster ? better. I would happily forgo significant performance for aforementioned benefits. However, mkvtech's benchmarks show the GS+ oddly does not even better the 7600GT by 10% (on a P4 3.0) and those are far less than half the price.
