I flew Brussel->San Francisco->Las-Vegas->Chicago->Brussel recently with American Airlines and I have to say that they are pretty ghetto (old planes). They just announced a complete renewal of their fleet (460 Boeing and Airbus orders) so in the future they will probably be one of the best US carriers

I had the pleasure of flying business class a lot in a previous job and my vote for best airline/service goes to British Airways. Their business class kicks major ass. I also heard good things about Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic (unfortunately never had the pleasure of flying them)

For cattle class I usually just take the cheapest ticket because in my opinion there is not so much difference anyway

whats your vote?

Lufthansa was my best experience ever flying from Berlin, Germany to London, England.

They offered a free unlimited snack tray a the terminal filled everything from fresh fruits, granola to yogurts and juices or bottled waters. The planes was clean, and the seats comfortable.

This was however back around 1990, so economies have changed a lot since then.

United (International) and British Airways. Philippines Air was pretty good, but I flew exclusively business class with them.

Not sure if they're still in business, but 4 or 5 years ago I flew to California on Song Airlines. I think they were some subsidiary of Delta, but the planes were really nice. Every seat had a touchscreen TV on the back of it. So you could either watch Satellite TV, order a movie, order food off a menu, track your speed/altitude across the country, or play video poker against the other passengers. It was really nice.

sadly most of my international travel has been on us domestic, nothing really noteworthy. so, my preference must be jet blue. i regret not getting our honeymoon flights on Emirates, but still think it was the right decision to not have an extra IAD/JFK leg in the trip.

BA business class. got bumped to first a couple times, but there really isn't a huge difference.
Got to fly on the concorde once with my dad, when I was a kid. That was awesome.

for economy, virgin atlantic is probably my favorite.

Korean Air or JAL. A few years ago KA was quite reasonably priced but now it seems 2x as much as US airlines.

+1 to Lufthansa
Flew from Seatle -> Copenhagen in 2003. Very comfortable. In economy I had free drinks and unlimitted snacks. I learnt that day that drinking on long flights isnt the greatest idea. So you could even say it was educational!

My wife and I had great experience with American Airlines on our honeymoon. Some guys hat blew into the engine when at the Dallas airport so we were delayed. About halfway to Miami a flight attendant hitching a ride sat next to us and we told them were were probably going to be late for our connecting flight from Miami to the Bahamas. He hooked us up with a few bottles of vodka for free and it made the flight nice. We hauled ass through Miami airport barefoot with a nice buzz to make our flight.

When we checked our bags in at the Bahama airport heading back the lady set us up with business class from Miami to Dallas for free. That plan was huge, I think it was a Boeing 777 if I remember correctly.

Either Virgin Atlantic from SF to Copenhagen or Philippine Airlines from SF to Bangkok.

The first flight was my first international flight since I was a kid and on the second flight they fed us like 6 relatively decent meals on the second flight...complete overkill I wasn't going to complain about considering the flight was like 18 or 19 hours long.

Both were far cries from anything the domestic carriers have to offer in cattle class.

BA business lounge in the new Terminal 5 of London Heathrow is also very nice. What I like about the BA business class is the great seats compared with some other business class offers. Food is also great

I'm jealous about the Concorde

Domestic: Jet Blue. Cheap ass ticket, no stops, decent seating, cool gadgets.

International: Lufthansa (or whoever their partner was for my flights). Had a whole freaking row to myself on the way home from Italy!!

Canadian Airlines international business class from Amsterdam to Vancouver. Truly wonderful service, food and drinks. Unfortunately they could not survive against the government supported Air Canada and no longer exist.

Had consistently great experience w/ KAL - normally they're prohibitively expensive but you can find deals. Malaysia Air is neck-and neck for service and quality of the flight, though!
