Only for those who prefer cheap prices over all else. Southwest is basically a flying hostel.

EDIT: I prefer UAL.

I like American and Southwest, though I recently had a good experience with Delta.

I avoid Continental like the plague.

I personally like Continental...they're usually good to me. Same with United..but I don't fly with them often..that that I fly often in the first place.

Funny you mention that since I've never been on an ontime WN flight.

i beg to differ... with sw, we were 20 minutes late for a 40 minte flight. The only redeeming quality to southwest was the little snack bag they gave out

wow, i was looking up fares for flights and from PA to TX the cheapest i could find was over $300. I didn't think it was that expensive to fly within the US.

great timing on this topic, as right now i am sitting in my college town airport (College Station, TX), which only has from two airlines - AA and Continental. Well I am supposed to be going to NY today on AA, but now they switched me to Continental because the AA plane's engine is broke..but I'm not too upset because free airport WiFi+Slingbox+AT FTW!

He wasn't asking about cheapest, but the best.

Although, Southwest does a good job, I prefer not to fly them because they are basically cattle cars. Short trips okay, but on longer trips I like to know what seat I am getting before I board the plane.

SW always over estimates the time it will take to get you somewhere to give themselves a little buffer...(probably common with most airlines).

I fly Southwest of out Detroit to Chicago MDW a couple times a month, and I would say about 70-80% of the time I am "ontime". The longest delay was 1 hour due to our plane being late due to bad weather.

The other bad thing about SW is the first come first served boarding...if you aren't there 30 minutes before boarding there is a good chance you will not have an overhead compartment to put your carry on bag.

no criteria is given in the OP defining "Best" , hence i applied my own definition of best

the big seven airlines are all bankrupt. Southwest makes money, hence, they are best

What is your top priority?

1) On-time departures and arrivals
2) Price
3) Best seating
4) Privileges for frequent travel
5) Direct flights (no stop overs)

When my wife and I travel personally, we almost always use the cheapest.

When I travel on business, I almost always use Continental since they have hardly ever been delayed and because my destinations tend to be accessible with no stop overs.

price is the major factor. comfort would be 2nd and most direct flight would be 3rd.
