Nah...come to think of it...the only thing that makes the RX-7 and C5 look alike are the curvy fender flairs. The RX-7 more more curves on their flanks than do the C5. The rear lines come to a different place on both cars. The RX-7 is a wee bit rounded off with that tiny spoiler, and the C5 comes to a sharp stop, rounded off with that bland rear.

Not taking sides...just at least the NSX wasn't brought up! Haha...the only things common their are the scoops behind the front wheel well.

Ohh my god, please dont compare a RX-7 to a corvette... there have nothing in common. The RX-7 body shape has been around for years... also didnt they stop makiing them now? Or is that untrue?

The RX7 is no longer sold here, but it thrives in Japan where I got a slight restyle and more HP

I'd never try to put the RX-7 in the same class as a Corvette. It's just a fun car to drive, and nice looking too.

The problem with Corvettes is that I don't think you're allowed to even own one unless you have a dozen gold necklaces and medallions showing from under a half-unbuttoned shirt which proudly displays your overly hairy, greying chest. But maybe that's only where I live.

A little late to the discussion, but i would probably say that the best sub-$100,000 US sports car would be the new Porsche 911 Turbo (996), which should just barely make the limit

boberfet..I wasnt implying that RX-7 is in the same class as the vette, just that some people were comparing it body wise to the corvette. Thats absolute rubbish.

NSF4 - Yeah, but didnt Mazda official end production of the RX-7 like last year? Not just in America, but world wide. i may be wrong, Im from Australia, and I think I may be confusing the situation... or is it no more RX-7s outside of Japan? so theyd still be in production there?

Do you know which of the above it is? I was damn depressed when I read that sh#t last year cause the RX-7 is one sweet ass car...

anyone who gives sh#t to the body shape of the RX-7 (its happened to me before !!?!!?) will have to deal with me and my fist personally

Sorry to break your heart, but check out Anand's statement:

<< There are some downsides to the Porsche, the 996 you can pretty much get for MSRP but for those of you that think you can pick up a 996 Twin Turbo for the $111K list price, you find me someone selling it at $111K and I'll be impressed. If you want to wait the 2 - 3 years to get one, you'll probably get it at MSRP, if you want it now you're going to be paying at least $140K, I've seen ads selling the car for up to $200K. Scary eh? >>

And I don't think that the RX7 is sold anywhere else but Japan. It is still the #2 daddy of sports cars over there.

95 was the last year the RX7 was made. I'm pretty sure the RX7 is discontinued worldwide too. Just too expensive, Japanese people would rather buy the Fairlady than the RX7.

I'd have to go with the Skyline GTR (yes, I'm a Nissan fanatic ), the Lotus Esprit, or the 996 Carrera 2. I can't pick between them, they're all "the best" below $100K, AFAIK.

Want fun below $50? The S2000 Type V or the M3.

Still too steep for ya? Go out and find a '91-95 300ZX TT (can be had for @$15K) and put $10K in Stillen upgrades and mods (and some choice 18" Centerlines w/ sticky Z tires). You'll have a 400+HP rocket that'll out handle anything out there at twice the price.

I've got $26K in my '94 TT and there's not another car that's ever been made that even comes close to the amount of fun I've had in it, for that price. Well, maybe the Series 3 RX7... Wanna race Brandon? How far do you live from Bristol?

I'm courtious, helpful, and kiss lots of a$$. Plus I've been here since the very beginning when Anand was on Geocities.

My car is my hobby... actually, it's my 2nd hobby. PC hardware is my first love. But for some reason my wife doesn't mind me spending $ on my car, but buying too much computer stuff sends me to the "dog house" fast.

<< Regardless of which car you use (Viper of Skyline), you're looking at single digit MPG figures >>

I only get ~8MPG in my Z when I'm really dogging the throttle, 14-16 when I'm driving leasurely, and 18MPG on the interstate at 70-80MPH. And I have to use 93 octane gas w/ half a bottle of 107 octane boost. Having a sports car can be a PITA.

"half a bottle of 107 octane boost. "

From what I've heard, those are more like a gimmick. It's one of those things that after you use it, you tend to be more aggressive on the throttle. Thus you go faster.
Never really tried it, so correct me if I'm wrong.
