heh I was thinking Viper, and then I thought "best all around" and I thought "hey can't you get a porsche in that price range?" - you're right, gotta be the porsche.

Viper GTS with your choice of $30,000 worth of hennessey mods...

I'd recommend upgraded brakes, front aero, & maybe the venom 500 package for a few extra horsepower to throw around.

The Viper is still too crude and something you couldn't live with on a day to day basis.

The Corvette and 911 on the OTOH are great performers and excellent "everyday" cars. Same goes for the M5/M3

Viper-No good. Not a practical street car. You can't even drive that thing past first gear in a city.

M5 over the M3-If you want to debate that you're just plain stupid.

Porsche 911 over the Corvette-Same as above.

The new 2001 Z06 'Vette spanks the Porsche big time. And its Active Handling System has been recalibrated/revised to the point where many are rating it over PSM.

I drove a Z06 last month at the Proving Grounds. It is everything they say it is ...

Tell your Dad to wait for the new NSX... This generation of NSX is almost 10 yrs old, and the new one is coming out soon. I don't see a point in buying this generation now...

Just my opinion...

If I was going to get a car that costs THIS much, I wouldn't touch it. You just can't, to works of art. However...the Dodge Viper is an exception. It's crude, but fast. Anyways, for $50,000-$100,000 I would get a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 like everyone else has said if I was thinking about the winter, and other stuff like that.

If I was going to modify a car...I'd get a BMW 330Ci convertible, mod it to the European spec M3 convertible, and be set. NOT! Nothing but the best...I want a Corvette Convertible. I'll want it to be like the Z06, light and mean. Then i'd send it to lingenfelter so he can make it a tad faster so I can put Viper to shame on the strip, and on the road. It'd still be pretty though....sigh...my car which'll wax any Dodge Viper, yet still be practical.

One thing I hate about the Corvette's is their ugly interiors. Throw out those ugly seats, get soem Recaro's, thrown in a short shifter...put in some carbon fiber for the dash...sigh...

Sorry for the sighs, I'm giddy

For some reason i'd say a 'vette.
I like lotus esprit's, but i couldn't really call them the best "all-around" sports car.

I have the feelig that an M3 would KILL an M5, but that just my humble opinion. The M3 is lighter and sure to have a better power to weight ratio. And the previous M3 was deemed the best handling car in the world...it can only get better.

Also remember that the current M5 does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 13.2 @ 107.4. The previous M3 did 5.3 seconds with 240HP and a 5-speed manual. The new M3 should at least match the M5 in acceleration with 340HP (I believe that's the HP figure). When it comes to handling, there's no contest. And the M3 is also weighs a couple hundred less.

The M5 is nice, but too heavy to be considered a "true" sports car.

I have spoken to some BMW workers, unanimous comment : BMW ? NEVER! They get 'em cheaper so its extra money for them, when they resell after one year. Without that none of them would ever buy a BMW.

nickdakick: I am confused by the comment from the BMW workers?

Personally, given the money to spend, I would either import an Impreza WRX, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI, or a BMW M5.
