One further point regarding Norton - at least in the UK (and other AV vendors do this as well) - they charge more for updating your subscription than they do if you go to a shop and pick up a disc. This is something I file under "insulting customer loyalty".

AVG irritates me because even if you buy a version of it, they try to advertise more stuff through the interface, including other types of snake oil like "speed up your computer with this!".

There's also the craptacular toolbars that some AV products like to peddle under the guise of "safe search", when it's really about them wanting your search info.

I have used many different anti - virus software programs over the last 6 years, but the one I have had zero issues with is Norton 360. Easy to install, easy to understand, and lets you know anytime you are attacked, great program. Worth the investment.

It is very necessary for our system to have a best antivirus for the security of our system.
PC antivirus software will slow down your system, we have seen that spending money on your antivirus software will not give the guarantee that you are getting the best one. I would suggest you some names of good antivirus like:-

I used to recommend AVG to everyone, especially back in days of version 8, 8.5, 9. Back when Norton truly was a horrible, horrible product that consumed so much memory and so much other system resources... But ever since AVG began pushing up-sell advertisement, and especially shoving the toolbar, homepage adjustment, & tune-up products even to paid subscribers I tell everyone to avoid them like the plague. The renewal phone calls, the renewal letters in the mail...

I personally use Kaspersky and like it a lot. A couple things I don't like but they can be disabled by settings.

Norton is a very good product now, you just want to have the knowledge on how to disable all of their "everything's ok" alarms that harass your screen!

I used to use Norton and it always served me well. I switched to BitDefender a year ago based on recommendations I found on the net and I got a 2 years subscription for the price of one. I was pleased with it until I ran into this problem:

Microsoft EMail not working.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2415066

It took me a day and a half to get my system running properly and it scared the @#$# out of me thinking I had been hacked because the problem was on all my window 8.1 units.

Other BitDefender users have been trying to solve this issue for days

Once I figured out what was happening I sent a report to BitDefender. They have yet to reply to me.

I won't renew.

No thanks. Bitdefender Free is free and pretty damn good. Bitdefender even has a free rootkit remover.

Bitdefender Free is light weight, cloud based, blocks you from entering a malware laden site and there are no pop ups.

Whats the best anti-virus these days?

My license for Eset Nod32 runs out at the end of the month and trying to decide what to get next.

I've run a bunch of different stuff over the years and seems to change from year to year as to what's best.

Should I go with a free AV like Avast or go with another paid product?

I am using K7 during the past one year. This is a paid version. Is there any software for long term free with good working? Please inform here.
