They don't seem to stop the latest IRC worm type stuff completely.
Latest seems to be Randex.C and Randex.B i'd sure like to know where these are coming from.
I personally prefer Norton 2003 at the moment which seems to work well, I switched from AVG about 12 months ago when it let me down by not detecting a trojan which was nesting on my machine...grr!
I've not tried Avast though...might have to give it a go.

Well, I use McAfee and am very happy with it. However, I've read many times that in independent testing, Panda Antivirus is the most effective, for whatever that's worth.
