Best antivirus program?

I used to use McAfee, didn't protect my system for sh!t, and couldn't even clean most of the viruses I encountered. Since my last format as a result of the spacefiller virus (some time ago) I've been using Norton Antivirus with no problems.

I check the Norton updates site once a week or so to look for and download new updates. Painless to update...

I had a virus that Norton couldn't detect even with the latest updates. Panda is the way to go. If identified it and got rid of it. If you don't want to purchase it you can do online scans here. It will not get rid of the virus but it will let you know if you have one.

None. As long as you use common sense you wont have a problem. I don't use a virus scanner and have never had a problem.

Norton Antivirus is ASS.

I've seen it let viruses by all the time (yes with latest updates). For the rare times it finds a virus, it can't fix the file, only quarantine or delete it.

I vote for Panda Antivirus. It knocked all the other anti-virus programs in a shootout a while back and I use it on my corporate network. It's really great protection for users and man is it easy to use for client/server domains.

I have my vote in for PC-Cillin from Trend Micro. I have used it since 95 and always will, it has never let me down once. IF it can't clean a virus you can email Trend and they WILL get back with you within 48 hours (impressive IMO) and they know their stuff. The updating is really fast and painless. It doesn't seem to effect my system preformance either.
Now in all fairness to Norton it is really good, but too much bulls*** to update (steps/slow) and customer service seems almost like there is never anyone home.
Just my two cents..

PC magazine and others sometimes do reviews of several such programs.
I hate the slow-a$$ Norton, it takes forever. Are you at all interested in the performance of the antivirus, or do you only care about max. virus detection? Whatever you get, make sure to configure it properly so it doesn't scan every file you open.. Under no circumstances should you set it to scan ALL files! Set to "program files only", and exclude archives (compressed files) from its list.

Norton Anitvirus came free with my motherboard so I use it. I wouldn't use it if I had to pay for it. If I had to go out and buy something, then perhaps Panda looks like the best one.

I vote for PC-cillin too. I've had it for many years and have never been infected. They even upgraded the whole program for free about 3 years ago. They sent me an email and said here's the link. Plus the virus updates are always free. Doesn't Norton still charge an annual fee?
