best app for international texting ?

Guys,
I have a hd2 running android and need a free texting app to text internationally. My reg number
doesn't work for some reason. I have heywire installed....and its trash. Any good ones out there? ?

The last time I checked Google Voice does not work consistently for international text messaging. Sometimes (most of the time) incoming texts just disappear and never arrived. This is one last reason why I haven't completely switched to GV.

Email is better than texting in every way. You can access email from your phone or any other device. Email is free. If you lose your phone or get a new phone, you still have your email.

what I meant was if both you and the person you are texting have a data plan, you could each sign up for a google voice account. you would just text each other's google voice numbers from the google voice app, for free.

been trying to make her do that...she just is like why should i make a google account....i always thought about just doing that. its the best option. Email is cool, but texting is diff.

But i think i got my answer....google voice will work !

If you have a smart phone...it's not really. Except you lose the instant gratification of notifications if the phone is in standby.

I've got hotmail integration with my iphone and it will ding if I have the phone on and the mail client running in the taskbar, but it won't display anything on the screen or make a sound if a new message is received while the phone is in standby.

yeah, she has a smartphone allright, but hardly checks her email, forget about getting on chat...getting her on FB chat was hard enough. Texting is the best way. Im using heywire and i doubt it works all the time.

I'm fairly certain that it won't.

You'll need the other user to install Google Voice, and that'll only work if they're in the U.S. or can fool the app to install outside of the U.S. You'll then need to associate Google Voice to a real phone... so unless the other person has a real U.S. phone number to associate the Google Voice number to... see what I mean?

Let me know if you get it to work.

AT&T Wireless allows international texting to Asia. Verizon does not. I forgot this when I switched to Verizon in the winter.

Ok ok, so I don't want to speak for Android, but at least for iPhone there text apps out there like TextPlus and stuff. It gives you a US # to text. Wouldn't that work? You could both get one of those and us a US # to text.

Or maybe they ban you from texting overseas.

BUT, your other option if you have data is to use Kik messenger. It's compatible cross platforms like iPhone, Android, and BB. It gives you a lot of features that BBM has given its users.

She has a S60 Nokia E63.....so i WISH she could use KIK....but nah =(
