WinXP, AMD x2 6000 cpu w/3gig ram.

I'm using Media Player Classic.
It worked fine for years till i decided to replace my Geforce PCIE video card with a Radeon.

I have triple 1920x1080 monitors, thus i also have a pci geforce 6200LE.

The problem is that when i drag the video from one screen to another, my computer sometimes temporarily locks up. By that i mean one of the cores of my AMD X2 6000 cpu shoot up to 100% usage. (The other core is a 0%. WTF?)

it takes like 10min for the computer to resolve the 100% cpu utilization.

So whats a good alternative to Media Player Classic?

Are you using the current releases of MPC-HC and both graphics drivers, and VMR-7 Windowed? If so try asking in the doom9 forum.

Also, rather than moving the window around, perhaps the Fullscreen option would useful and avoid the problem (i.e. configure to output on specific target display)?

VMR-9 Renderless is for subtitles while maintaining DXVA. Otherwise, VMR-7 Windowed is preferred. I've not seen any reason to use VMR-9 Windowed.

VLC of course...as others have mentioned. Lightweight, customizable and plays anything.

I like KMplayer but I use more than one. Do use VLC player as well of course mainly for the GPU acceleration. Hate having to use more than one because I wish one had everything but never really seen that happen. Close but not quite. Oh well. It does suck though in some ways.

You sure another media player would even make much of a difference? I have most of the popular video-playing software on my computer, and Media Player Classic's cpu utilization is not that much different compared to the others. Lots of programs play everything so I never even bother with VLC and its horrible UI. Anyway, the bottleneck might be your video card especially if you are actually using a slow PCI (not PCI-E) card.

Have you tried MPC-HC? The original mpc player hasn't been worked on much for some time now, the latest release had small updates. MPC-HC has had a more thorough update, the latest being early this month.

I was tired of the codec hassles. VLC has none of that so that is what I am using.

mpc-hc is the best. i love how you can manipulate the overscan, makes letterboxed movies play on tv's easy and as large as you want.

I stay away from codec packs entirely since many of them have nice little trojans or other malware packaged in there for you as a bonus.
