Looking to re-start a site, I'm looking for something small at first, anything suggestions for hosting around the $15 range?

In the past I've used cpanel and really like it, so something similar to that would be great.

TIA!

15 a month or 15 a year?

1and1 is cheap, as is dreamhost

check fatwallet hot deals to see what kind of current deals are going on
check webhostingtalk forums for reviews and experiences

yeah, I wasn't sure where it belonged, so mods move to where you think fits.
I was thinking $15/month ... I look into the suggestions above, more are welcome!

where is rossman when you need him

:edit: btw, I'm planning on setting up a social networking type of site ... again depending on the user load, I'll upgrade as needed. But for now prob. need something small for proof of concept ... 1-5k users?

For $15 - 30/month you could get a cheap VPS and use that if you have any sort of Linux skills.

I spend $20 a month and get a VPS at KnownHost. It's plenty fast and has plenty of space and bandwidth. Plus you get shell access and a dedicated IP so you can run anything you want.

To top it all off it's "semi-managed" meaning their support is great. They'll install/upgrade software, troubleshoot, etc all for free and with excellent response times.

I've run production sites on my VPS there and never had a problem.

It's a close one. Doesn't really drop right into any of the forums. Maybe Networking. Don't feel strongly enough to move it.

I use Hostmonster which is great. They are only $7/mo. They use linux servers, so you wont be able to use ASP.NET or anything like that. Otherwise its a great host as they have gradually upgraded to just about everything unlimited. I run a number of websites with them and only once have I experienced a major issue that turned out to be a DNS problem when I was working with some new domains that I purchased (My fault for trying to do what I was doing without having the domain propagated across the internet yet). They have excellent 24/7 support that is both chat and phone based. I have always used the chat as I am not a phone person. I highly recommend them.

Oh, and stay away from bravenet, you are fairly restricted in what you can do and their support sucks.

I love hostgator. They're great, cheap, and I haven't really had a problem with them. Although, I wish I could structure the way it was laid out differently though.

I have had the free AT hosting, which was OK because I didn't know what I was doing at all then and I had no idea how to even do much besides HTML.
I also had Dot5Hosting. Stay. Away. At. All. Costs. They're not good for support, and they're horrible to try to get away from. Seriously. They make me want to cry. BUT they have a pretty slick control panel interface.

I have used SimpleHelix for a Magento site that a client of mine is running, and they're good too.

But Hostgator is good for me. I have about seven or so sites running off of the medium account they offer.
