Best bang for the buck? Sempron 3100+ w/mobo = $159

the sempron 3100+ is based on the a64 core w/all the 64bit stuff disabled.

the 2500+ is just a rebadged athlon with faster fsb.

i'm thinking from a cost/performance standpoint, the 2500 combo is the best bang for the buck?

That 3100+ looks nice itself, but look at the mobo, it's a SiS based solution. I don't know if i'd be down with that if I were in your shoes. Have you checked mwave.com? they usually have nice bundles with their A64/semprons.

I wouldn't touch that MB with a ten foot pole. You get what you pay for. People want to spend $20 on a MB and $30 on round HD cables, then they wonder why they are having problems. Buy the best MB you can. Get a lesser processor if you have to, but get a quality MB. It doesn'y need a lot of extras, only quality. R

The anandtech's review on the board is quite nice.

its not a great o/c board however, you will be limited to 228mhz fsb or so .

which makes 3100+ not worth it. prehaps u can get the combo and sell off the board and get a better nforce3 based board ?

Why dont ya just get a Newcastle 2800+?

The board is crap, go with Asus, MSI, Abit or DFI (VIA K8T800)

Or at least I think thats the name of most Socket 754 chipsets.
