i would preferably like 5.1 speakers, but if you cant recommend any (or can recommend a set better 5.1), then 4.1 is good too.

i listen to music more than i play games, so take that into consideration please.

thanks

Altec Lansing 5100 5.1 speakers. Newegg has it in stock for $139. I think Altec Lansing's speaker sounds very clear when compare to other low cost gaming speaker systems that just uses full-range woofers as satellite speakers.
If you just want power, then you should buy the Logitech Z560 4.1 THX 400 Watts (the subwoofer produces floor shaking sounds).
If you have $330 to spare, then Logitech Z680 5.1 with Dolby Digital Decoder built in and THX certified is the best buy.

Best bang for as little buck as possible would have to be these: 34.95

I have the labtec 3 peice I bought from same place and I am VERY impressed with the sound (as is everyone else who has heard them)

The wooden sub is awesome especially at this price.

You may even be able to find a $5 off coupon floating around somewhere.

If u have a bigger budget, then the other ideas were good too.

What about the Z-640? How do they compare against the Altec Lansing 5100?

If only you lived in the UK, I got some half price Philips A3.600's, supposedly slightly worse than the Z-640's, but a lot cheaper (in my case).

The Z-650's and I think Creative 5.1 5700? Not sure if it's the 5700's, but something like that, are meant to be quite good.

also, if you play music more than play games, have you thought about getting headphones? a nice set of Grado or Sennheisers will sound really sweet, if you care about audio quality.

I have a question:

If I play alot of games and use nForce2 sound, which speakers would fit me best? I'm not looking for something really expensive, maybe ~90$.

i actually have a good set of wood cabinet speakers (2x3ft tall with 12" speaker and tweeter, and 2 bookshelf speakers with 10" + tweeter) that id hate to give up, but they're too big for my room now and i couldnt make htem 4.1. the best i could do was set it up to my amp and set them to l/r channels (it's an old amp).

If you mostly listen to music, why not consider a set of Altec Lansing 621 2.1's. Music is mostly stereo though this will change with DVD Audio. I have listened to DVD-Audio with these and the sound is
unreal. Great bass and mid-range and thrilling highs, and unless you really pump them, no distortion.
Good for watching DVD's to. $118.00 shipped from Newegg. Just a thought!!

I've got a mint set of Klipsch V.2-400 Promedia's for sale. They are the most accurate things I've ever heard. I've got a Klipsch reference home theatre, and you can tell they pass there quality into these little guys. Klipsch also makes 5.1 promedias w/ decoder. Personally, I just bought a new receiver and am putting a 6.1 system in my bedroom.

how much are you selling htem for? PM me

the reason why im looking for 5.1 (or 4.1) speakers are for watching dvds and such, as well as listening to music and the occasional game. i just got back from best buy to listen to a few systems. i listened to an altec lansing and it sounded alright. i listened to the logitec z640 and there mids werent pronounced enough, like everyone was saying (but the highs were nice and clear). i also listened to creative labs inspire 5.1 and i liked them better than the logitec, tho i think the logitec's bass is better (which im indifferent about, i dont listen to bass thumping music, though it's good to have). and then of course i listened to the klipsch and it blew all those speakers away. does anyone else have any opinions on the creative lab speakers? i will probably drop by again to give them all a second listen, so any advice while listening would be good.

If you can get a hold of a CPU Magazine July 2002 issue, they have an interesting review of various speakers. The highest rating of all - including the 2.1, 4.1 and 5.1 was the Logitech Z-560, which the claim is equal in quality to Klipsch 4.1 for a lot less price.
I know in Canada right now, at Staples, they are $249.00cad, which is about $160.00usd I believe. They also offer a mail-in rebate of 75.00, which brings the price down a lot. The speakers are also THX certified, a technology I am aware of, but not very familiar with, but apparently real good, depending of course upon whether your sound card also supports THX.
Anyway, hope this helps, sounds like you are kind of looking for the same thing that I am at the moment, and I'll probably get me a set tomorrow.
Cheers,
Hagen

THx isnt a tech or anything. Its just a certification given to speakers and sound cards by THX. It preaty much means they replicate audio really well.
