I don't see that as a good option since you can't find out what hotel you'll be staying at until AFTER you commit (unless, of course, your sole criteria is price)

Wrong. North strip 5 star on priceline = Venetian (if you get lucky Bellagio or Wynn). All are the wynn.

So, if by chance I get fucking shafted, is there anyway out?

Question cannot be answered - shafting no possible when choosing North strip 5 star.

Interesting

12/10 - 12/15
5 nights @The Hotel =1100 less 150 discount = 900 + tax
Venetian = 1100
Palazzo = 1200
Bellagio = 1300 or so
Wynn = too damn much

Need to mull this one over...

400 bucks savings (let's say) is...

- 2 @Alex (pre-tax/tip)
- about 6 fall tasting menus @MGM
- 2 for Picasso (no drinks)

Thanks for this link. I'm aware with the trick and it didn't work for me the first time, but that page is awesome.

I'm gonna try to bribe my guy for an uber corner strip view (even though we already got the sickass suite)

I'd have to say the Palazzo suites are the best I've stayed at and I've been to mostly all of the 5 stars with the exception of Wynn. But for your list and budget, I would say MGM or NYNY. And stay away from Harrahs properties!

I'd stay away from Stratosphere (it's a dump, and far from everything), and Circus Circus (also a dump).

Priceline you name your own price. If your $80/night bid gets accepted then it's $400 + tax. There is no better deal than that.

re: JS80

I'm gonna try for the northern 5* ones

As of right now, they are Bellagio, Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Trump Towers

South 5* is TH@MB, and when I break down the price it's really not that good

I paid $40/night at the Tropicana and had no qualms, room was basic hotel fare and was within walking distance of all the major casinos.

We stayed there and were accosted by some rather large women asking if we wanted to par-tay

If you were say... planning a big trip to Vegas with 15 of your Med School friends because 2 of them were getting married over the summer and you were looking for good deals would it be better to find a real agent and get a trip or try to put one together on priceline or a similar site?

Basically... as their target audience do I DIY or go try to be wheel and dealed?

That would make the Tropicana a good "bang the cow" hotel, not "bang the buck"...

If you want to stay at the Venetian, I can get rooms for you really cheap <shifty eyes>, but I'll have to check in.

Midweek theHotel (part of Mandalay Bay complex) absolutely rocks. Best bathtubs on the planet in the suites. Room for 3

if you live reasonably close to vegas and like to go once or twice a year, go to the Venetian and get a playersclub card . . .after gambling around $500 and accrusing grazie points, they start comping rooms left and right. MGM Mirage hotels are much stingier and Wynn is even more so . . .. Venetian seems the easiest to get comped rooms.

Harrah's is almost dead center on the Strip and decent. It's connected to Imperial Palace if you want cheap food on site. We enjoyed it last year for Thanksgiving.

I've also stayed at Bally's for a conference and it was OK.

I just checked hotels.com, excalibur has $40/night. If I'm going to Vegas I honestly don't care where I stay... all I do with the room is sleep in it.

Both of us would rather spend more money on shows and food than nicer accomodations, so we wanted to find a reasonably priced option that wasn't a completely terrible property. Right now, it looks like the Circus Circus, Stratosphere, Excalibur, New York New York, and MGM Grand seem to be likeliest candidates. Any experiences with these, or alternate suggestions?
