Hey Guys,

I've been struggling with my diet for a long time now. I generally don't like/want/need to eat breakfast and I tend to skip lunch a lot as well. I'd like to find a simple sustainable meal program for week days. People have told me about anabolic and some other state for metabolism, saying that by not eating I'm forcing my metabolism into a fat saving state. I'd like to change that. My problem is that I never know what to eat.

Generally I'll have decaf espresso in the morning, some trailmix, maybe a granola bar or something until about 1:00. half the time i'll go out and get something for lunch probably about 500-1000 calories of something. I try to max vegies and minimize carbs...I'm okay that this, but not great. At work I take clients out to lunch a lot and that kills me.

If I skip lunch I'll usually just have tea during the day and get home an do dinner.

I'd like some simple suggestions for breakfast do's and dont's. Like eat a banana in the AM or an egg or nuts or something that I can get on the run, which I usually am in the am.

Any suggestions on books would be appreciated too. I'd love to figure this out.

Exercise is another issue for me, but that's a topic for another thread.

thanks!

Breakfast isn't really necessary as a meal goes, look at all of the intermittent fasting (IF) diets out there.

That being said, what are your goals? Diet is important if you want to gain mass, lose mass, maintain, re-composition, etc.

I don't eat breakfast, except maybe on weekends. I get to work at 9 and eat lunch at 11:30. I go to the gym around 8 and eat dinner right after.

2 eggs over easy on cast iron skillet.

I put them on top of toasted English muffin and pop them once on top.

#2 Veggie omelet (mushrooms, peppers, onions etc) on CI skillet.....cheese/salsa on top

#3 Sausage egg and cheese on hard roll

op, if you dont want to eat breakfast, then dont feel like you need to.

read here: http://www.leangains.com/
there is a lot of data about how intermittent fasting is actually quite good for the body.

if you prefer to eat only lunch and dinner, or just lunch, or just dinner, then do what works for you. just make sure you are eating well balanced healthy foods and not too many, or too few, calories.

are you trying to lose weight? or just eat better? you didnt really specify, but what i said above is applicable in either situation really.

now, if you are into serious weight lifting and trying to bulk up, then when and what you eat matters a lot more from what i have gathered here in this forum.

7 hard boiled eggs and 20 almonds. It should keep you sated for 4-5 hours unless your metabolism is crazy. Then just up the amount of either.

Losing weight isn't rocket science, burn more calories than you consume. Metoabolism etc. does play a part certainly but from all the research I've done and personal experience over the years it just boils down to the basics. When you eat isn't nearly as important as made to believe. Personally my typical breakfast is an omelet. two eggs, real bacon bits, some turkey or ham and cheese along with some wheat/grain toast. If I'm in a hurry same toast with peanut butter and some greek yogurt.

eggs are good and a sandwich, also something green: salad, tomatoes etc. And breakfast IS important. Better eat breakfast that supper... but best is to eat 5 times a day and small amounts of food at a time...

Depends what your goals are in general.

If you're just a person who wants to be healthy and not a fat blob, then I don't think it matters what you do or when you eat really. Just don't eat over your maintanence levels for calories. Obviously get proper macros (don't binge on fat or carbs), too.

If you have any other goals in fitness or athletics, then I think much more focus needs to be placed on diet. But I'm gathering this is not the case. I'd argue that athletes and folks who are dieting and exercising to gain muscle mass or increase their fitness levels should be eating breakfast.

Cottage cheese, grapes, and another fruit depending on what's on sale; usually something like blueberries, blackberries, or strawberries.

Eggs are also very good for breakfast because they're high in protein and other nutrients Open ranged eggs are more nutritious than caged fed due to the added variety in their diet. They also have a "meetier" taste.

I try and stay away from mass carbs in the morning. Everyone is different of course, but grain heavy breakfasts tend to leave me tired for the rest of the day. Raw fruits and vegetables don't though.

As busy as you are, and given you don't feel like eating, I'd start with protein bars. It will go great with your decaf espresso and there are multiple brands with low sugar if you are trying to avoid it.

I think you only have to worry about a fat saving state if you are trying to go 24+ hours between meals.

The notion that eating breakfast/lunch/dinner preserves metabolism vs just 2 meals spaced 6 hours apart and a 18 hour fast between them is spread by whatever company feels like they are the one having their meals skipped.

The best breakfast: meat or eggs with oatmeal and yogurt with some fruits. This is a power breakfast

I typically eat a bowl of cereal, but I'm not currently doing any straight up diet.

Had to give the disclaimer.... Now, what I've done in the past...

Berries/fruit = Every few days, get some fresh fruit and make a fruit salad. Play around with how much you need for a few days of time and adjust your produce runs so you don't run out or end up wasting any. Shoot for cantelope or honeydew melon...watermelon, blueberries, strawberries, red grapes and keep them in an airtight container in the fridge.

Cottage cheese....low-carb with protein. Very good to add to your fruit salad.

Now....eggs are great....if you're into southwestern food, add some black or pinto beans and salsa. The beans will add protein and fiber....keep you full until lunch.

Spinach....I like to take fresh spinach and saute it in grapeseed oil with thinly sliced sauteed garlic.

I can plate that with the beans and eggs and salsa and cottage cheese (in the place of sour cream). I could eat that meal 2-3 times a day easy.

Seek out some sardines....high in protein and some calcium...the boneless variety has less calcium. I prefer Cento brand.....Moroccan sardines... They're sold under a few different labels, but they are very mild in flavor and high in Omega 3s. I need to buy another case as I'm almost out.

Read up on the slow-carb diet. There are a lot of similar ideas based on the glycemic index. You can lose a lot of weight the right way by eating certain foods with minimal work beyond the basic food preparation.

You must be joking.

1) Protein bars, at least every single one I've seen at a store, use cheap ass soy protein. Soy will up your estrogen, which is great... if you're a woman.

2) The sugar and chemicals in these things are disgusting. For many of them, you may as well be eating a candy bar with soy protein added. Fuck. That.

This article covers most of the bad ingredients.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life...one-of-these-six-ingredients/article17526937/

One that they missed is Maltitol syrup, a sugar substitute that has a laxitive effect. Gross.

Stop being lazy and either make a shake or real food.

my breakfast is just a protein shake. i mix 2 scoops with about 12oz of almond milk. it's about 300 calories and 50g of protein. that usually lasts me from about 8:15am till around noon or so, sometimes a little later, just depending when i feel like eating.
