Looking for 10"+ tablet for email, web browsing and online videos (dailymotion, etc) only.

Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+, Samsung Tab, Asus MeMo, etc..what to get?

also, can the browser in android work just like chrome in windows? (flash player, pdf viewing, etc) or do need to get a windows tablet for that?

Does it have to be 10 inches? The Yoga 10 HD+, ASUS Memo Pad 10, TF103, and other budget 10 inch tablets under $250 are all going to be big stinking piles of crap.

The Nexus 7 2013 would be a great choice. It's small, sure, but it's fast, great full HD display, good build quality (mostly, guess some have gotten some bad apples around here).

The LG G Pad 8.3 is also a pretty nice tablet that can be found under $250 now.

Regarding Flash, by default it's not available on Android. I believe there are still some hoops you could jump through to get Flash working on an alternative browser (not Chrome). But really, I've not found it needed in a long time. Most websites will serve content in an alternate format like HTML5 if it detects a mobile browser.

7" tablets make lousy 10" tablets.

However, so will $250 10" tablets.

In 2014, Flash is much less relevant. I no longer miss it. I missed it in 2012 but it is no longer 2012.

at that price, you're looking at significant trade off.
For example
LG G Pad 10.1 can often be found at $200. Pros: latest Android, quad core, IPS, dual cameras. Cons: small resolution, low frequency CPU.

I would get an iPad 2 for the things you describe using it for. A 4: 3 screen is best. I think the new nexus tablet is even took after the iPad. I could be wrong on that though I heard it on a podcast yesterday.

I'd wait for another refurbished Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 deal, they're going for the top point of your price bracket on a sale.

Don't get the iPad 2. It is too slow to run the latest version of iOS well. Plus the screen is 1024x768. If you get an iPad, the minimum I would recommend in 2014 is the iPad 4.

BTW, the iPad Air refurb goes for US$339 at the Apple Store. That's a decent price.

If you want to stay in the lower end of that budget the Lenovo A10's are actually really good. My daughter just bought one on sale for $150 and for the money it's pretty quick and everything runs very smooth. I really wasn't it to be too good considering the lower price range but I was happily impressed.

so i did more research and will stick with 10" tablet. so no 8" or refurb recommendations please. given that, are these $200 tablets really not capable of show video streams? i am not going to do anything but surf net and stream videos

btw, i used to have HP omni 10 and that worked fine for the most part (would freeze every so often)

If you want youd be able to get a ipad mini 2 for 200, or ipad air for 300 during black friday. Or if you like me, Im going to try to do a ipad air 2 16gb for $310 using discover and target + gc discount (even if the target gc dont work same day).

Last year kindle fire HDX might be around that price. Anything older than 2013 is going to pretty much suck. It'll browse the web and do video, but 2012 will be either way too slow for the 1080p displays, or it will be a low resolution model. $250 doesn't really buy a 10" tablet with reasonable specs unless you're willing to buy used, refurb, or make major performance sacrifices. Waiting for a 10.1 tab pro 10.1 refurb to pop up again is the best bet.

Someone asks for a 10 inch tablet and people recommend every 8 inch tablet in existence...

I got this one a few months ago.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It runs a stock 4.4, no bloatware with Google Play pre-installed. Don't think your going to get a high end display but for the $ if you want a 10" tablet this has served me well. Occasionally use it connected to large display via HDMI for micro soft office on line and various Google apps. I don't use it every day but have been pleased with it doing what I expected for a device in this price range. I occasionally use it with this Bluetooth keyboard I already own

and this is the case I got for it.

The Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 is $249 on Newegg. Not much of a fan of Samsung Tablets but for a budget tablet it should be fine.

How bad is the 1024x600 resolution?

As long as your looking close to straight on viewing angle it meets my expectations for web browsing, youtube the occasional movie etc. I have several other better mobile devices but for a budget kit kat 10" tabby you could do a lot worse
