Overhyped media FTL.

That doesn't mean the managers at every store have done the same or that every employee remembers the training. Like PhaZe, I have experienced this also and ended up just taking my business elsewhere.

EDIT:
Here's the original store of the Best Buy intranet site from last month, it tells the first hand account of a guy trying to buy a laptop.

What matters is corporate policy, yes?

Yes, they did say that they inform their employees about the two different sites, but why would they make the sites look identical in the first place? The layout and info displayed should probably be different if only employees are meant to see the intranet site, it just adds confusion (for both employee and customer) when they're identical.

So CompUSA closes half its stores and BB just rolls on. Gotta wonder if CompUSA had the same business practices as BB if they wouldn't be in such poor shape.

Well, I'm with Verizon and the unlimited data package there is 59.99 =P

But I mainly meant the phone price itself, PDA phones are really frackin' expensive.

Wait... what's the point of two sites again?

Why are you able to get to both?

Why would you maintain the out of date one when the other is accurate and public?

This happened to me:

Was looking on-line for a specific CD -- found the lowest price at BB.
Went to BB -- price was 50% higher on the sticker.

I asked some sales dude if the price was right... and he showed me the web-site with the 50% higher price.

I second guessed myself and figured maybe it was CC where the CD was -- so I left without buying anything.
Went to CC and they didn't have it -- so I went home, empty handed.

When I got home, i checked again where I found it for the least money -- and it WAS BB!

Placed the order on-line w/instore pickup and went back later that week.

The lesson I learned is to shop online. If BB has the bast price, buy it online w/instore pickup.

Sounds like the original reason for implementation could have been security-related, such as restricting acess to an intranet only, but they then practiced "intentional neglect" or worse, they are going to get nailed to the wall

Your store was taught that, but countless other stores either didn't go through the training, or hired employees that can't retain information. If you read the comments on that story, about 10 other BB employees post. They all say they weren't aware or had to figure it out for themselves.

I've personally had this happen to me for a hdtv. I thought I was crazy and ended up leaving the store. I ended up realizing I was right after getting home, but found a better deal at circuit city. So BB's incompetence backfired in this case.

In this day and age, if you still shop at Best Buy then you deserve whatever sleazy tactics they throw at you.

Supposedly the employee only site has other information such as the price that BB pays for the items.
