Best Buy admits they scam in-store customers

Best Buy came clean today admitting to investigators that their stores rely on a secret intranet site which shows higher prices than the ones customers find at BestBuy.com. The intranet is used to trick you into coming into the store, so when you see a sale online and refer to it at the store, the sales person goes "online" and shows you something else (usually a higher price). Just the kind of press you want before launching your "luxury" gadget store. ? Louis Ramirez

Wait... tell me again why their prices can't be different in store and on their website? If you want the website price, either call in or go there to find out, it's your choice where to buy from.

This is like Papa John's doing an online only $x.xx pizza deal and not offering the same price at their location, it's their own choice.

I don't think anyone is saying that...what the problem is is that BestBuy is purposely tricking customers...you won't ever hear a BB employee say that the website isn't the same....

it would be one thing if it was just a online price vs store price. but the fact is if you look up online you see one price. you go into the store to purchase and they look up the price "online" and the price is more. they then tell you that is the price even though it is not.

Their internal and online store site look the exact same, and they tout the internal one as the same site you look at when you are at home, thats where the trick lies.

Yep, I posted about this last year. I live ~1.5 miles from a best buy, I went to their website found a DVD player I wanted, and went to the store to buy it. I had to DRIVE HOME, print out the web page, and bring it into the store for them to match the price. The "in store website" did not match, as far as I recall. (I remember calling my sister and having her check the site while I was standing there in the store and they were different)

Hah, this is exactly what I was thinking, but I don't hassle Best Buy about their prices enough to warrant an expensive PDA phone with an expensive data plan/package.

Ha, that's just a perk. And $15 a months isn't really that expensive.

Well if the price that the intranet site reflects is the in-store price, and the price that the Internet site has is a web-only price... that would make sense.

I've experienced this first hand on several occasions. I forgot what I wanted to buy, I think it was an all in one printer, but the in-store price was like 30 dollars more than bb.com. Anyway, I checked their instore computer myself and noticed that the browser was reading a local intranet site, because the status bar was showing what it was loading.

I asked my friend that works there (doesn't know much about computers), and he said that all he knew was that they cannot price match bestbuy.com for some reason.

This is bullsh!t. We've been trained by our managers @ BB that the internal BestBuy.com website is NOT updated, and should not be used for price checking, price matching, deal searching, etc. We've been taught how to get to the real BestBuy.com, and everyone in my department knows how to do, and do so with no problems.

Overhyped media FTL.

Always research what you want to buy. The exact model and everything. Now you won't get jip. I can't believe people fall for it

Never purchased anything from BestBuy or BestBuy.Com. Usually because the price they have for anything is more of a WorstBuy.

QFMFT. Someone didnt know what was going on and jumped to conclusions. This probably had something to do with Sony too.
