I wonder if Sony and friends understand that selling the BR-D version of a movie for $30 when the DVD version is going for $4 is part of the problem.

Although, to be fair, Hellboy + Fifth Element BR-Ds for $30 total ain't bad.

And the other good deal is the Insignia bookshelves. Excellent reputation for being good surround speakers, and they're only running $60 a pair this week.

Anyone have an opinion on the LG 22" flatscreen for 219? I'm looking to buy 2 flatscreens around that price and I have $75 in BB giftcards. Seemed like a decent deal to me.

Well, if they'd put out a movie worth more than $4.... I have an HD DVD player. There's about 500 movies available for it. I can buy disks for under $7. I own about 60, which I bought for about $8-10 each, some of which were worth more, most were worth about $8.

The point of this is that even in HD, movies aren't really worth what Sony et al want them to be worth. Even with the ability to add a BD player to my collection for under $100, there's no impetus for me to do so at this time, as there's very little on BD only that's compelling enough to spend the bought monopoly extortion cash on. Maybe in a couple of years when prices start dropping.
