Closing 50 stores only results in the loss of 400 jobs? Eight employees per store? Something is beginning to add up about the BB experience.

Maybe some will be moved to other stores so they can raise that to 9?

They're also opening 100+ smaller mobile stores and I'm guessing some employees will be relocated to other stores.

Small/lightweight product (transportation, storage and floor space considerations) with decent margin that consumers rapidly replace. Seems like a good move if they can increase their sales.

I hope they stay around but it doesn't look like they have learned much over the last couple of years and from circuit city's demise

They became virtually useless to me when they gutted their CD selection. They used to have a huge, and varied collection, even including some special releases. Last time I looked, it was top40, rap, and Latino :^S

I hadn't been in there for a long time and when I walked in it had a weird vibe that made me feel like I was not part of their target demographic of clueless consumerism. I thought back to how much I had spent there in the last fifteen years and how lucky I am to have a Micro Center nearby.

The 400 was in the corporate structure, not the stores. There will be much more than 400 lost when the stores close. That is the only thing that I am worried about.

I know that people on this forum don't care about all the job losses in the economy cause you all have high paying jobs, and it doesn't effect you, but losing these B&M shops is really bad for the economy. More people without jobs.

Hope they change their way of thinking.

Imho geek squad and non-existent customer service are going to bring them to their knees.

Rather have the loss where companies learn from their mistakes and come back with a better idea of how to deal with a changing market.

Get off your high horse. No one said we didn't care about job losses.

Don't you mean "Best Buy closing 50 Amazon / Newegg showrooms?"

That's how I use the blasted place anyway. Go in, kick the tires, go buy online. I wouldn't buy a monitor sight unseen, that's for sure, but I'll be damned if I pay MSRP either.

I only spend money there if I get a GC from somebody who doesn't realize the depth of my hatred for extended warranties.

Eventually somebody will figure out how brick and mortar can drive sales. I'm just not holding my breath.

BB hasn't been keeping up with the times. They shunted selection, and their staff is damned ignorant about what they are selling. All they teach them is to sell sell sell the warantees, etc. I used to love BB, but I haven't actually bought anything there for 3-4 years at least. All big box stores will meet this same fate unless they radically change their business model.

I hope they close at least ONE of the four or five around me. The one I used to work at is GHETTO...

The only thing they are learning is that it is too expensive to have a B&M shop. So they will eventually turn into a Fry's(who is not doing all that great) or even an etailer.

Either way, jobs will decrease, and there will be more people living off unemployment, welfare, etc.

They could probably make a killing if they went with something like amazon prime. Just in this case, if they had it in your local store, it would be delivered same day. If not in your local store, than free 2 day shipping. They would of course have to be slightly more competative on price. They could also give thier prime account members 1 year service plans for free and extended plan discounts. Prime members could also recieve an in store discount that brought items more inline with internet prices.
