The govt should bail them out. Think of the collateral damage from all those people losing their jobs? Think of their suppliers not being able to sell as much. The ripple affect is worth investing tax payer money to keep them from failing.

Cant say I wont enjoy the slow death spiral of BB over the next decade.

Best buy is a relic of a bygone era, and that is just the way it is.

Look at Frys, that is the way best buy should go. AT the very least frys price matches competitor ads. Will best buy match a new egg price, or a tigerdirect price?

Unless best buy changes their strategy to match current trends, they are going to follow circuit city.

I think it is too bad that employers are not planning for the changing economic environment. I wish that companies would do the same for employees. Just because it was working 5, 10, or even 50 years ago doesn't mean it will continue working today.

Employers and retailers need to get with the times and adapt the business to the changing environment.

This is one reason why best buy is going belly up

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Help-Top...at204400050011

Best Buy will match the price if you find a lower price on an identical available product at a local retail competitor's store, a local Best Buy retail store or BestBuy.com. Simply let us know when you are making your purchase or during the return and exchange period.

The Guarantee does not apply to: Our competitors' website prices,

But I can walk into a frys and frys will price match website prices.

If you live in a place like houston that has 2 frys, why should you go to best buy?

Best Buy shot themself in the foot many times over. It's time to amputate if they want to keep the rest of the body living.

I know that people on this forum don't care about all the job losses in the economy cause you all have high paying jobs, and it doesn't effect you, but losing these B&M shops is really bad for the economy. More people without jobs.

it's sad to see any company go out of business, but that's the nature of the market.

hopefully BB closing these stores stops some of the bleeding and they're not forced to close the rest of their stores too.

I hadn't been in there for a long time and when I walked in it had a weird vibe that made me feel like I was not part of their target demographic of clueless consumerism. I thought back to how much I had spent there in the last fifteen years and how lucky I am to have a Micro Center nearby.
Salesmen don't seem to like it when the customer knows more than they do about their own products.

are you suggesting a mandate by the federal govt that we all buy electronics from BB AND the extended warranty would stimulate the economy? :hmm:

Yes, I care about people losing their jobs. I have been there before and its no fun.

But what can we do about it when best buy refuses to keep up with the times, and worse, best buy refuses to compete?

I can walk into a frys store with a newegg advertisement, and frys is supposed to match the price.

I walk into a best buy store with a newegg advertisement, and the people at best buy say "and?".

Why should I buy something from best buy when I can order through amazon for a lot cheaper? Awhile back I was at a best buy store, they had a video card for about $100 more then I could get it through amazon.

Why should a consumer buy from best buy when we have so many other options available?

When and where did they build the third one?

If you want to be truthful 2 of them are outside of the Houston city limits.

Of course, Fry's tries to make it as painful as possible to pricematch. 45 minutes to pricematch a blu-ray disc to Amazon, and it took no less than three managers. It was sad and pathetic.

We have 3-4 Fry's all within 10 miles of each other here and a Micro Center so the closing of a few Best Buy stores won't bother me. The only thing I like about one of the local Best Buy's is they have a Magnolia Design Center that has ridiculously high-end audio and video.

Good riddance.

Actually, I was shocked when my boss came back from a BB couple weeks ago, with a external HDD that was same price as the cheapest we found online.
That was a first. Never before had I seen BB have something priced just as low as cheapest available online.

BB price matches Amazon.com, which is good enough for me.

"Consumers armed with mobile phones are increasingly using stores as showrooms to check out merchandise they later purchase for less online"

This is me right there. When I bought my 43 inch Samsung LCD 4 years ago I found it at best buy and they wanted $2,300 for it. On Amazon it was $1,700 and people were very happy with Amazon's white glove service. I went to Best buy and checked it all out and then ordered it on Amazon.

When did they start doing this and will they match everything from Amazon.com because they have outside vendors that sell through Amazon?

don't know when they started, and it has to be amazon.com not a reseller on there. I have done it twice years ago and my dad has done it countless times. He got a GPS, an HD antenna and a few other things. But I don't know if it's everything.

Best Buy eroded the employee experience to the point it eroded their customers experience as well.

They are middle management heavy with oversaturated markets. The drive to zero has already and left the retailer struggling playing the marketshare game instead of the profit game. They gave crap away trying to keep wall street happy.

Retail is changing folks. This is just the start. Soon it will all be about informational kiosks and multimedia installations explaining products instead of people.

You will have people at the registers and the geek squad....

BTW Geek Squad and the cell phones are the ONLY profitable drivers left.

I used to shop at BB for DVD's and computer games. Now I have netflix streaming and steam.

I cant even go there to check out new laptops because it's a shitfest of lowest common denominator 1366X768 machines for $499

I've gotta admit that I love the pricing and convenience of Amazon but do miss the idea of going to the store, browsing the shelves to find something I want, and then leaving. It was all part of the experience. Now it seems like we just shop online to get exactly what we want. Not exactly a bad thing but I can think of a number of old school PC games and movies I never would have experienced had it not been for picking them up from the shelf to take a closer look.

Once in a while, during a boring lunch, I'll check out the place.
Just wanting to see if they improved.
Nope, they get worse and worse.
The accessory prices are obscene.
It's like airport vending machine prices.
