Economy is changing the rules of business. Either stop with the sleazy upsell and insulting catch phrases that only works on people when times are good and find other ways to bring in revenue or shut down.

Anyone see Geek Squad setting out on their own? Serious question, I really don't know how they fare business wise. Based on their pricing, a steady flow of customers must yield profits...

Let's all hope that BestBuy goes out of business, and gets bought out by Microcenter, and they expand their list of stores.

I don't disagree, but you still see people standing at the counter.

They staff 1 actual tech per shift, the rest are sales associates with little to no technical expertise.

The Best Buy in West Dundee is within bicycle distance of me is closing.

No surprise, they had hardly anything in stock in the store.

Would go there for something and they never had it. They would give us a print out with the other stores that have the item in stock.

Would be awesome if Microcenter moved in. The nearest once is an hour away.

Best Buy to close 6 Chicago-area stores

Best Buy announced today that six Chicago-area stores will be among the 50 nationwide that the retailer plans to close.

The locations for the six stores are: 1038, N. Rohlwing Rd. in Addison, 8900 S. Lafayette Ave. in Chicago, 200 S. Waukegan Rd. in Deerfield, 4707 Lincoln Mall Dr. in Matteson, 1100 N. Route 83 in Mundelein, and 979 W. Main St. in West Dundee.

The Chicago, Matteson, Mundelein and West Dundee stores will be closed today but will re-open Sunday for final sales before closing for good May 12

The release said that the company still has 53 locations in the Chicago region — 44 stores and 9 Best Buy Mobile stores.

walmart sells their own model numbers with crappier components than what is sold in best buy

Then why isn't BBY advertising this and say they have higher quality TVs? This is why BBY fails, they just try and sell warranties instead, but everyone caught on a long time ago.

I'm not saying BBY is doomed just because they are BBY, but they are doomed because management is stupid.

Well its not that their management is stupid, its that their management thinks the customers are stupid and that they can continually take advantage of the customers with the same old bag of tricks from 1990. If BBY had more expensive TVs and advertised they had better quality TVs over walmart and target and amazon that would be an effective retail strategy but that is NOT what they do.

Walmart is probably demanding better components though. I know for a fact they do in some of their vitamin/supplement line ups.

No, it's because it is only the partial truth. For normal products, the model numbers are different because they want to eliminate price matching and the vendor does not want to deal with companies bitching about special pricing. HP used to do this years ago with Sam's Club. They had the HP 722C printer, but at Sam's club it was HP 720C. They were the same printer, but they sold the 720C for $50 less.

At the moment, I work for one of walmart's biggest suppliers (trust me, it is not a good thing). Stuff may be different model numbers, but they are all the same product found in different stores. They only time you may get a different product is when you get those mysterious black friday models....you know, the models that show up with no history of being sold ever. Those models could be little differences from taking away certain accessories to something big like taking an electronic function away.

The two closing in Arizona are both in areas that were rapidly growing but new development died out. My guess is that there just is not enough people in the area to support the stores.

I laughed when I found out that the BB store in Boston's Back Bay is going to close. WTF were they thinking? Who in their right mind thought opening a store in that area would be a good idea....

Well, whoever wrote that report indicating it's an additional 42 stores, besides the 50 stores didn't read the BB posting properly. It's 50 stores to save $800 million.

This latest drama surrounding Best Buy came shortly after the company announced that it was closing 50 stores in an effort to save $800 million dollars. The company has already closed two of the 50 stores, and notified six others that they would be closing.

Yesterday, the company revealed the list of the remaining 42 stores that will be closed. Best Buy expects that most of the stores will permanently shut their doors to customers by May 2.

They must be doing good in some areas, there's a BB about 6 miles from my sisters house, and last year they opened another about 1 mile from her. I have no problem with BB, I hate waiting for items to ship, and they always price match Amazon for me. Yeah BB charges tax, but I'm not hit with shipping, and I don't have to wait. Even on Amazon items that have free shipping, I'd rather pay tax and have the item instantly.

With no tax, $4 next day shipping. Its not like anything from best buy is of dire need. I can wait 24 hours.
