I find it ironic that people take issue with Best Buy not price matching Amazon at the same time they take issue with "only" having 1 person to tend to customers in an isle. How many people on the floor do Amazon have telling you about all the features of the wares they're peddling? 0. Zip. Nada. They put up a page with some info on it and they're done. They have no such overhead from having to fill a floor with employees that can deal with people one on one. That is precisely the reason Amazon is able to undercut them on prices they can't afford to price match.

With that said, Best Buy still sucks. It would not be a pretty picture no matter how perfectly perfect they ran their business for the reasons above, instant gratification only goes so far compared to lower prices and no sales tax in this economy. But they're taking an unavoidable bad situation and making it worse with their corporate shenanigans.

We know we just don't care. Amazon has individual shipping overhead with $4/gal gas. Walmart and Target can both compete with Amazon, so why can't BBY?

What do you think he did; Hookers and blow?

Seriously though, there had to have been massive pressure to get this guy out of there, given recent comments. Perhaps they hired a P.I. firm to get dirt on him, then used it as leverage?

Wow this is turning interesting.

I bought a digital camera bundle for like $160 there a few months ago. I like to be able to go in and look at the selection and then buy one right there. I'm not going to go research the camera there, spend 30 minutes talking to the rep, and then go home and order it online. The $20 savings just isn't worth it to me to go home, find a cheap place online, wait for it to arrive, hope that Fedex doesn't toss it on the porch, hope it works so I don't have to ship it back, etc.

Besides the sales rep who helped me needs an income too and I feel like I can at least buy the product from him since he educated me (somewhat) on it. Gotta support the kid who's working ya know? Other than that I run over there if I need something for work like every 6 months but don't spend much there at all.

I wonder why they are losing business? Shitty pricing, bad employees, pushy sales people, unknowledgeable sales people, overpriced accessories.... that couldn't be it right? Yeah online sales have a impact, but they can at least get close and people would buy for the local convenience. However, they made it an annoyance not a convenience.

Don't go thinking Walmart is special. Most large brick and mortar stores cut a deal for their own specific model numbers so they don't have to price-match.

in wal marts case they really do use worse components. the best buy version of a nice TV will have a samsung or LG panel. the wal mart version will have AU Optronics. Samsung and LG will build a TV for wal mart with another panel just to get their business.

Shareholders and/or board members who were looking for an excuse to get rid of him.
Plus he used company resources to carry it out. Meaning anything from hotels and meals, to company jet and weekend getaways, on the company's dime.

Closing 50 stores only results in the loss of 400 jobs? Eight employees per store? Something is beginning to add up about the BB experience.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're shifting some employees to other "close" locations and cutting hours

I guess it depends what youre buying. I just bought a laptop from best buy for a better price than anywhere else I was looking, online included, for the specs I got. Problem with just shopping online is you can't actually look at what youre buying, some things I want to look at in person before I purchase, can't do that online.
