The last time I bought TDKs (maybe back around the first of the year) they were Riteks.

I'll keep getting the TY Fujis while they are available-I haven't seen any from Taiwan (yet).

Well, I picked up the TDK 50 pack. Total garbage, stay away from them. They're made by CMC magnetics, widely known for being crappy. Here's the ATIP info:

ATIP: 97m 26s 66f
Disc Manufacturer: CMC Magnetics Corp.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.82MB (79m 59s 71f / LBA: 359846)

These TDK disks had over 8000 C1 errors on a full CD I wrote at 48x on my Lite-on. That's really bad. In contrast, the Fuji TYs have about 450 C1 errors for a full disk written at 48x.

Well, I didn't see that post about the rebate forms until now and, yes, they are no longer on the Best Buy site. Does anyone have even a screen shot of them? Or a link perhaps? Any help would be appreciated.....

I guess I got lucky with my online order of the 100 pk Fuji's and received Made in Japan TY's, but since I am aware of their using Taiwanese discs I will now only buy instore to make sure I get the Ty's.

That is the easiest way. Also, see this comment about the differences in packaging (which I think was confirmed at one of the cdr forums that I browsed through as well):

I was in a Best Buy this afternoon and they had the double 50 Pack spindle that was Made In Japan, but they also had some newer 100 Pack single cakes that were all marked Made In Taiwan.

This does indeed suck. Does anyone know the manufacturer of the Taiwanese Fujis yet?

From a FujiFilm CD-R (Taiwanese/blue label):

ATIP: 97m 15s 17f
Disc Manufacturer: Ritek Co.
Reflective layer: Dye (Short strategy; e.g. Phthalocyanine)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 73f / LBA: 359848)

Other than the dye difference, which is dubious, they work fine for me (plays in finicky drives).
If you're anal, get the Japanese TY Fuji's (silver label).

Ritek is supposed to be pretty good now. I'd like to see someone that has some of these fuji Riteks to burn a full CD and see how many C1 errors are produced. Anyone?

If you have a Lite-on drive you can use a couple programs called CD Doctor or Kprobe. They will read a CD and tell you the number of errors on the disk. They only work with Lite-on drives though. I have a Lite-on but no Fuji Riteks.

they weren't ritek's. they were pro media or pro disc, whatever the name is. does the quality of the burner play a role? or possibly the software?

Ok duh, I should have read your post more closely
I don't know the answer to your question regarding burner quality or software. I suppose it does matter. I use lite-ons normally. I did get a BTC burner FAR one time and it made the same number of C1 errors as my lite-on did. Since BTC is usually considered a crappy drive, I was surprised.

yes
got a junk mail from bb saying there's gonna be a special sale for five days starting thursday?
edit: people complain about btc because of reliability concerns iirc
but have a 32x cdrom and 24x burner myself, no complaints yet

I have an idea if you can't find the rebate form. If this is a Fuji rebate, not BB, you maybe able to file online at "myrewards" Fuji rebates .
