I don't personally think these deals are that great. I just got a 300gb Seagate for ~$100 AR, but to each his own.

Well the lack of rebate hassles makes these deals at least warm. Also one of the first times I remember seeing a marked down SATA drive.

What are the warranties on those drives? 3 year? The deals are somewhat warm IMO but with my bad luck regarding maxtors no way would I buy one without a 3 year warranty.

strangely on maxtors page, their oem drives have 5 year warranties, but they only give 1 year for the retail packaged ones.

that is weird. but thats their policy it seems.

Staples has the same 200gb one ( Model L01P200) SKU 504517 for $79.94, also no rebates , this week. So, if you're going to be buying stuff at Best Buy, price match to Staples for a better deal on that one.

Thanks OP. Keep looking for the da deals, always some Maxtor haters out there.

Seems like Maxtor is a hot button word for some still, after for one, they threw some Quantum drives into their Maxtor retail HD boxed, after they bought Quantum. I got a 20gig Q, that way, that from the start makes a noise when accessing data, that makes my dog come running from the other room thinking its the noise of when dry dog food hits his bowl. Waiting until Maxtor's are almost free without rebate.

all Maxtor drives die, I have a 250g dead next to me, WD aren't very good either, had best luck with
the Seagates, and they have longer warranties too

and that price for a 200g isn't even warm

I agree that Maxtor's quality has declined over the years. The best drives I have used recently are Seagate. And Seagate has enough confidence in its quality to provide a 5-year warranty.

I've always had luck with all my maxtors. WD on the other hand:
if my case gets to hot they start squeeling like b!tches then die a week later.
I still prefer segate however; even though one caught on fire in my case a few years ago
for no apparent reason.

Thanks OP. All the BBs in my area were out so I found the last one at CrapUSA and they pricematced it down from the $109 :Q that they were selling it for. Good deal, especially since my Seagate crapped out on me and I needed a new drive quick!

All of my Maxtors still work....Some are at least 6 years old....My newest Seagate (6 months old) just bit the big one....I just bought the 100GB Maxtor SATA from Best Buy....Works for me....
