It seems rather silly to me. The $30 gift 'coupon' is as good as credit online. Finding a hot deal just for the coupon is like saying 'let's find a hot deal for those $20 bills!' If the deals come, then fine, they'll be posted like they usually are. No need to start one more tread just to mention things like the Dlink router deal that's already been posted.

So if I gave up on reading the GF4 thread two days ago because it went to sh*t, I have no idea that some people apparently got $30 out of it. All I see from this title is:

1. The Store is Best Buy
2. There is a $30 coupon
3. lizardboy doesn't want people talking about the GF4 crap in this thread.

Am I supposed to infer that this $30 coupon is related to the GF4 price mistake - not from the title

Redeeming it now my constitute compensation and disqualify you from any more (getting your order fulfilled) down the road. Also, some of you might like to know that the wholesale cost to BestBuy of the GF4's is $99. This is in the process of being confirmed at the hardforums.

I agree that from the thread title by itself you could not definitively conclude that we received $30 coupons as compensation for BB's pricing error. However, unless you've been isolated on an island with no computer and no access to the Hot Deals forum you probably would've noticed the commotion and havoc caused by the GF4 price mistake which brought the Anandtech servers to their knees! The thread grew so exponentially fast that you just couldn't keep up with it. Same thing happened when the cancellations came about.

Anyhow, my point was not to say "get out" if this deal does not apply to you. Everyone is entitled to voice their opinion. Everyone is entitled to disagree. We can be "civil" to each other without jumping down each other's throats. My point was if you just want to complain and thread crap don't bother. If you disagree with something, then say so, but at least have the decency to treat others with a little respect. These flame wars are just pointless and in my opinion "scare off/turn off" a lot of potential contributors to these forums.

Also, even though the DSL router is on BB's main page as a hot deal, if you try to order it you will see they state they are no longer accepting orders for this product. What gives? Advertise specials, but you won't let anyone buy them? I think BB is doing this a little too often to be "honest mistakes." I have heard of this happening several times lately. This is bordering on bait-and-switch which is illegal.

The deals posted by Lizardboy and Wassup are indeed hot deals (or at least hot ideas). The thread title says plenty about the topic at hand. EVERYBODY on the hot deal forum knows about the BB GF4 fiasco, how BB usually cancels the orders, and then how BB usually gives out a coupon. Those who have received the coupon noticed the thread title which was directed only at them, not every member of AT. If you opened this thread and it did not apply to you, move on, GET OVER IT. There are literally thousands of threads on AT which only apply to a narrow audience, does every other AT member post their comments, pissing and moaning about how the deal doesn't apply to them specifically? NO! (actually some do but they are quickly told to grow up and find something of real value to complain about)

Now, back to why I think this is at least a hot idea. The original date of the "pre-order" delivery was supposed to be around the first week of March. The coupon, which was given to those w/ order numbers, expires on February 28, that's just over 2 weeks from today, and before the actual delivery date of the video card. If (and only if) we are able to use the coupon to buy a gift card, then that allows us an unlimited amount of time to redeem the $30, possibly getting in on an upcoming hot deal (which would make it a super hot deal w/ the coupon).

End rant.

I seriously doubt that BB gets the cards for $99. XBox uses the close to the same technology and costs $400 just to manufacture.

I just read where the G4 might actually perform WORSE than the G3 in many of the new games coming out. Appearently the G4's instruction set is totally different, so most of the games in progress won't be optimized. Our good friend Johnny C said Doom will definately be better on a G3 for this reason. Might be a good thing they didn't get them heheheheh.
