Hello. all

I will be graduating from college in June with a BS. I have been searching for jobs and recently got a chance for a job interview at Best Buy service center in Suawnee GA. The problem is that its about 30 to 45 minutes away from where i stay in Atlanta. Another problem is the job i will be interviewing for is a Technicaian assistant that will probly only get paid 9-12 dollars and hour.

Is it worth it to drive all the way out there for a part time job only makeing 9-12 and hour. Or should i try for the job thinking i can move up in the company and just deal with the drive?

I'm not sure what to do because i do not konw much about the best buy employment world. And i dont know what a technicaian assistant does at best buy service center.

Can some one give me some advice.. Thanks

you won't move up.

It's not worth it.

The job sucks (been there, done that)

look for a non-retail company.

Youre going to have a BS and you want to work for what I make already? I am going to school to be a teacher and even they get paid more than that! What is your BS in IT? It wouldnt be worth it for you to work at that wage. You will hate your life if you get stuck at BB as a technician.

if you need money and can't find another job take it, and keep appyling for other jobs on the side. If not, then go to the interview but don't take the job and keep looking. This is assuming you are good enough to work at Best Buy

yes the service center's are in the retail stores...that's where they fix stuff for ridiculous amounts of money.

I wouldn't drive that far for that piss poor amount of pay. But if it's the only thing you have then you can always take it until something better comes along...

Also, NO the service centers are not in retails stores. They are where the retail stores ship the products to to be repaired and then sent back. Maybe some service centers are in part of a store but I've never seen that. The service centers are different than the tech bench where they clean CD players and junk.

HELL NO

Yeah.. same thing i'm thinking.. But its not at one of the retail stores. Its some service center 45 mintues away..

There are plenty of best buy's 5-10 minutes away. I have never heard of the best buy service center. That why i thought it would be better to work there than a retail store.. But i really dont know.. Thats why you guys opinion is helping

just remember you > BB

if you need the cash, snap it up, then apply for other jobs in the mean time, when a sweeter job comes along, give BB the finger

True.. its just the ride that is gonna kill me. just to make 9-12 bucks hour.. If it was a higher paying job i wouldn't mind driveing 45 minutes.

My old job doing manufacturing work payed me $16/hour wih just high shcool diploma. I was layed of with half the company

Have you investigated temping in the area? I'm sure you could make that much $, plus if you show your skills to a small company that needs someone with your set, you could land a full time job.

Ive worked at BB service center before even though it was only for a couple of days. It is so horrible, I was considering suicide after that experience. The time moves so slowly at the service center, each day feels like an eternity.

They'll teach you how to hate the "devil customers" (which is pretty much anybody on anandtech).

I think they will give you some pills and then elctro-shock treaments to dumb you down.
